    Hey all,
So i need to buy a new laptop for university, and wanted a strong performance laptop with a great screen for movies/tv and gaming.
I've read a lot of reviews and narrowed it down to the MSI and the G74 as having the best screens and general build quality, heat&noise and they have the added important bonus of having international warranty (going to ship intl' from US shops).
Now the question is which is the best option, I've read that previous asus models had a lot of complaints especially with the keyboard, and the new model also seem to have some problems with it. however, i've also read that despite it's special steelseries keyboard, the msi also seems to have some keyboard problems.
I'm going to be doing A LOT of coding on the laptop so i'm guessing a good keyboard is one of the most important features.
also i've read about a second revision keyboard for the MSI, how do you know if you get one and will msi replace it right away/how easy is it to do it yourself, assuming they'll respect international warranty and ship it here.

    can get a MSI GT780-221US for 1399$
    Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM Processor
    • Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit
    • 17.3" Full HD Anti-reflective Display (16:9; 1920 x 1080)
    • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M discrete graphics (DDR5 1.5GB VRAM)
    • Accelerated performance with MSI TDE Technology
    • Full-color programmable backlit keyboard by SteelSeries
    • MSI Cooler Boost Technology
    • Dynaudio Premium Sound Speakers
    • 750GB hard drive
    • 12GB DDR3 system memory
    • USB 3.0 for high speed data transfer
    • HDMI 1.4 (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) output
    • Built-in 720p HD webcam
    • 802.11 b/g/ n Wireless LAN with Bluetooth

or the Asus G74SX-XR1 for around 1300$
    17.3" FHD (1920*1080); i7-2630QM (2.0GHz); 12GB DDR3; NV GTX 560M 3G GDDR5; 640G 5400; Super Multi; W7 Home Premium (64bit);
The asus is listed in places as weighing 4.6KG but i couldn't find any place saying how much does the power supply weigh? seems like it'll be between 1-2 pounds heavier than msi.

on the other hand, there's the MSI barbone, which is a pre-order (not good since i'm starting next sunday), has the nvidia 570 but doesn't have the steelseries keyboard (for good or bad?) and no international warranty, meaning i'm stuck if anything is faulty.

Anyone can shed some light on the situation and help, I want to order something as fast as possible so it'd get here sooner rather later.

keep in mind that with MSI you got easier to access components and a real removable graphic card

Dang! I thought my G73Jh was one of the best I ever owned. It was fast, quiet and cool. Great screen and looked stylish/unique. Keyboard was awesome.

Sorry I can't help with the choice though. I don't know the keyboard quality or issues between those models. Personally I would choose the barebones iwth the 570, but keyboard is less important to me.

I would love to know if anyone knows whether MSI will be coming out any time soon with a $1500 model with Blu-Ray instead of DVD-Multi. That is virtually the only reason keeping me from trying a GT780. Any ideas here?

If you have the money, you should go for the GT780DX maybe, the same as the barebones, is not too much money more, but more features and the steelseries keyboard, i decided on this one too, and im doing lot of coding too.... BTW, where are you from? If you are from south america be aware of asus, they seems to just laugh on south american customers :( (im from uruguay and msi has 1 global and 3 USA and Canada that can be handy sometime maybe)

780, not 683... However, I just looked at your site again and indeed I got $1501.56 with the matte anti-glare screen, but I would not pay except with a credit card, so it goes back to $1548.00.

In fact, the G74 has an extra hard drive caddy-- so, when you put in basically every performance spec that the G74SX-XT has, and replace it for the MSI GT780, it's actually $1593.00, $93.01 more.

The bigger problem for me is: will you offer a 30 day money back guarantee like Tigerdirect or Amazon? (from the receipt date to the ship-back date, not from the ship-from date to the received date!!) There's the rub! I don't like being left in the wind, and 15 days FROM SHIPPING and back to you is maybe a week or less to test it?

No offense, but it doesn't help my confidence when your site is designed for 21+ inch screens and is full of spelling errors. :p

If I had 30 days I would definitely try even the $1550 system and see how the keyboard handles (which is smaller than the G74) and the system, but I'm not confident in any company enough to have only a week's time.

Edit: I suppose it's for someone, but not me.
