I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I've upgraded my laptop to a SSD. I want to look into upgrading possibly the CPU and/or GPU. The CPU is a Intel Core i7-2670QM and the GPU is a NVidia GTX 570M. Any help would be much appreciated!

7970M or gtx770m work, heatsinks from the current systems fit.

The CPU you can upgrade lies within the Intel Core 2000 series, but no more.
As far as GPU upgrade is concerned, it's not worth it for the cost when purchased separately.

The main concern in the 2+ year old notebook is the motherboard..

In good working condition a GT780DX is worth about $600.

How much do you want to invest in it?

Sell it on ebay while it's working well then together with the money you would have spent on the upgrades put it toward a new model with a warranty.

If the motherboard goes bad as mine did a few months ago your goose is cooked.

Motherboards a very hard to find and are very costly.

If replaced by MSI it may cost more than the notebook is worth.

The screen is another part that has a lot of mileage on it.

The best advice I can give is not to heavily invest in a 2+ year old notebook.

Soon after my GT780DX celebrated it's 2nd birthday the motherboard, graphics card and 2 memory modules needed to be replaced.

The notebook runs about 12+ hours every day since being delivered.

Never overclocked and very little gaming on it.

Never taken out of the house and runs 99.9% of the time on AC power

I've installed 3 SSDs and a better wireless card.

The DVD was removed and put in an external USB enclosure.

Screen still look perfect with colors displayed well with icc profile.

The current 424 is a pretty good deal I suppose with the ips screen and 870m.

Not tested but likely not IMO since they are gk104 based.
