On my fourth MSI gaming laptop and never had this problem before, but the screen all of a sudden stopped working on me. It turns into static, but the computer still works and the 3 monitors I have plugged in also function properly so I can only assume its not the gfx card but the screen itself
Anyone else ever get this issue?
Whats the best way to fix this post warranty?
Thank you

Have you checked that HDMI shows a normal screen as that could be either a GPU issue or a screen issue. Connect external screen to check if it's GPU.

If the external screens are working fine then it's more then likely the cable. OP could check if it's come loose as the cable is easy to unplug both ends without complete tear down.

Simply remove the Hinge cover using a pry tool, Be genital, then the LVDS cable is there.
So you do everything from 0:00 to 0:35 then continue at 4:00 to 4:10
My god the LVDS cable is in an easy spot to get hold of.Theblackmamba likes this. -

I see that they don't have stock for the 4k panel here: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/MSI/GT73VR 7RE TITAN/
It seems like the most reliable place to buy it....
However I dont really use 4k at all anyway and my priority is to have a working laptop more than a 4k screen. Is it possible to buy a 1080p panel 40 pin socket and use that? -
Just cracked open and the cable seems snug, so I guess it has to be the panel?
This is a video of whats going on with the panel. All my other monitors are working fine and computer is functioning normally other than this

It could still be the cable however it's does look like it's the screen, the EDP connection on screen might be loose which would require you to remove the bezzle to find out and unscrewing the LCD from the back.
However as I said it's looking more like the screens chip is toast as they do get hot by the MSI badge at front.
How ever unseat the cable and re seat it see if anything changes.

My screen is a 4k screen. laptopscreen.com does not have stock and their support says "You will not be able to downgrade the resolution without making modifications to your laptop as well the physical fitting of the screen may not work with your bezel."
Does anyone know if this is true?
If not is there anywhere else that has stock I can get of the 4k screen?
Thank you everyone in advance -

Did you laptop come with the 4K screen already installed ? if so if you give us the ID number of that screen, something like AIDA64 will be able to tell you. I could then look as well for you.
@senso any idea's bud. -
Thanks again -

I've had decent luck off of eBay for stock. -
I was able to buy the panel, but now not sure exactly how to replace it (I'm not the most savvy at replacing hardware on a laptop and a bit afraid to screw it up). Do you have a good guide you could point me to on how to do it?
Thx again -
Once you get the bezel off I think it'll be pretty straight forward with what you need to do. I find it easiest to start right under the webcam and gently pull out, popping those clips off.
It should be just clips for the top half of the bezel, then you will start pulling off the adhesive. If you go slow and careful here you can probably keep enough on the bezel that it will stick just fine when you put it back on.
There are four screws holding the panel to the lid, two on the top and two on the bottom. Once you unscrew those, you can lay the panel down and remove the eDP cable. I think there were originally two pieces of tape holding it to the back of the panel that you'll have to pull up.
Plug in the new panel, screw it in and put the bezel back on. I start at the top again to line it up with the webcam and the rest just pops back in. If you had enough adhesive remain that you can get it to stick again, you are good to go. Otherwise just use some thin double-sided tape. -
Nevermind. I posted before realising that you bought one

Thank you so much guys. need to buy some tools and try and swap that panel out

I would assume it would have to do with the intel GPU, driver issue. I'm not 100% certain in the case of your laptop, but i know mine channels the image through the intel GPU to the laptop display. Anything external is channeled through the nvidia GPU. Have you recently updated the intel graphic drivers?
Also, Intel graphics only supports UHD at 60hz. So it can only display 4k at 60hz max, what do you have this set on?Last edited: Apr 15, 2019 -
Looks like I finally got this fixed. Well, I replaced the screen and it hasn't acted up in the past 30 mins so I am assuming. But thank you to everyone who helped. It seems for this specific model its even easier than the videos as it is held in by 4 screws in each corner instead of having to slide it in and out. The connector on the back was also super easy to deal with but I do see what you guys were saying about the double sided tape. At this point I'm just happy to have it fixed. Thank you guys once again. This youtube video also helped me in case anyone references this for their issue later
