Off to pick up my new trade in unit, excited for sure as have been waiting a while for this.

I plan to slam in a 960 Evo , initially was going to raid a pair but since i have a pair of M.2 drives i figured i can raid 0 them and use the Evo as my boot drive. At least for video editing i can offload from the OS drive to the raid 0 array and then eventually replace the 1TB HDD.

Is there any issue with what i am planning to do, i realize there are 2 nvme slots and 1 M.2 so i assume i can run an M.2 sata III ssd in one of the nvme slots. I dont know if having a pair of Evo's in a raid 0 array is really needed for ones OS.

All feedback welcomed. If an ebay auction i won for a Crucial M.2 MX300 525 plays out for real i will be installing it and removing the M.2 raid 0 array and then find another sata 3 2.5 to replace HDD but i have doubts on auction i won, a new MX300 525 at $105.30 shipped off a new seller , will wait and see or file refund claim....

Cant wait to game on the 1070 GTX and tweak system out

I don't think there are problems with your plan. You will enjoy the ample power of the GTX1070 haha :) specially if you manage to overclock it, its one hell of a GPU.

I wish I had a bit of extra money right now, I do want to upgrade my internal storage to all SSD. I plan on using a smaller NVMe drive for OS and a big 1 or 2 TB SSD sata for games and stuff.

Sounds good, I am very happy with what I received via trade up. However I have to cool the spending as well since of recent the cash has been flying out of the wallet!! I gotta read up on overclocking the gpu and cpu but for now I will just be using it stock till I get it set up the way I want.

I have to comment that the GT Trade up worked well overall considering I was successful trading in my refurbed GT72 which I bought off an authorized MSI reseller. It came with 6 mths warranty but as of Feb it was out of warranty so to trade up and get 27 mths with the bonus warranty was a big factor for me. I essentially got alittle over 100% of my original value on trade in which was killer, the laptop was obvioulsy like new I was a little surprised as a refurb one could not tell at all it came packed with everything as brand new

You probably had grade A refurbished unit which was most likely a return from a dissatisfied customer. :)

Yep i would agree, the unit was as new i never experienced an issue while i owned it. However fixing these units if one encounters an issue can be pricey so the upgrade program worked out well for me. I would not hesitate buying refurbed again via the same seller i bought from. In fact i was tempted w a killer deal he had on a GT80 but without nvme support i decided to pass on go current as possible and 10xx series gpu.

Yeah, money does fly away hahaha! For overclocking, take your time, it's not hard to understand the basics, but it is always good to exercise caution, mainly because unstable overclocks often result in hard crashes.

I also had an overall positive experience with the GT trade up. The main issue is perhaps time, as it did take a while, but considering how everything happened, and the holidays came up, it can be understood. I am very happy with my trade, and while I was a bit worried trading up my GT80 for a GT73, I feel it is a better machine all around (particularly cooling, which is superb).

Awesome to hear and i wouod agree on the time issue, it was a bit lengthy. I habe overclocked lots in the desktop world just have never owned an overclockable laptop so looking forward to it but first is get it all tight as i like it :)

Yeah it is all about a happy middle. My balanced CPU speed would normally be 4.2 ghz but since mexico ambient temps can be very hot, i chose to stay at 4.1 and have max temps of 80.

GPU wise, everything responded well and temps were fine even when well overclocked, but gamingwise I hardly need to do so hahaha.

I would personally use external tools and BIOS oc directly once you have your desired clocks and voltage. The reason being that I found the dragon center easy to use but has no real controls, only a slider for clocks.

Question, I am looking to buy some additional ddr4 2400 memory, unit came with 1 x16GB, I see it is a cas 17 and Kingston, what specific software will tell me the ram model/chip info, what would be a good option for another 16 w similar timings or better as I realize it will run to match the current memory, probably will buy 1x 16gb

Second question, is it possible to actually run an OS on an nvme Evo drive with a pair of M.2 sata III drives in raid 0 in the remaining 2 slots, if so how does one go about this in bios with settings, as what I have tried did not work. Thinking about my GT72 I was running 2 pair of raid 0 arrays , slightly different from what I want to achieve now
