MSI GT73VR - Internal USB

I have had many laptops and one of my main gripes is no internal USB headers. It amazes me that no manufacturer has created an internal bay type setup where you can put your mouse or whatever wireless usb dongle which would allow you to leave it connected but not worry about breaking the dongle when putting into backpacks etc..

Back with my G51VT I had sacrificed one of my external USB ports to create one inside the laptop under the panel but that required a sacrifice of an external usb port but it was great since I could leave the dongles plugged in..

I now have a GT73VR and this beast is just screaming for the same thing.. I am trying to find out more information on if this thing can done by adding a usb adapter typer card to maybe one of the nvme slots (is it an M.2 K + B or what is the type of M.2 slot) or if this beast has an extra mini-pcie slot?

anyone else done anything similar.. I would like to avoid the solder route if I can help it but i'm definitely not afraid of it.

 

On notebook design, space is everything and we can see that the manufacturers have cramped everything into a compact space. Moreover, can you share the issue you have with internal wireless controller?

 

with this particular laptop space is definitely not an issue.. even in all of my other "gamer" type laptops they have extra hdd drive bays that is the perfect place for the type of functionality.. Just imagine popping off a cover and there are 2 or 3 usb ports you can embed all your USB dongles onto and you can close the cover and not have to worry about breaking or losing them..

not having any issue with the wireless controller.. just wanting to embed my usb wireless dongles for things like my steam controller, wireless mouse etc.. into the laptop empty drive bay (this particular model has an empty space for a hdd drive bay that doesn't even have the sata connectors)

I have found M.2 B + M adapters like this: http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_1179_M-2-NGFF_62842/merkmale.html but the NVMe from what i understand is the NVMe interface is the "B Key" - please correct me if i'm wrong.

 

NVMe is backward compatible with SATA so that second device you linked to should work, assuming you have a free slot available.

I noticed that adapter card requires external power. How will you supply the adapter with it?
