I would like to dedicate this topic to the MSI GT729.
Im planning to buy the 017nl edition, here are the specs:
- Intel Q9000 @ 2,00Ghz - 6MB L2 Cache (2,3Ghz or higher with Turbo)
- 4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066Mhz
- 500GB SATAII HDD @ 5400RPM
- ATI HD4850 1GB Graphic Card (Close to 10k 3DMarks)
And all the regular stuff you find on the MSI G Series.
This model is going to cost 1500 euro's in the Netherlands.
Also it comes with a nice gaming mouse and a backpack.
For more details you can just google "MSI GT729-017NL".
And i dont want to promote any webshops, but there are
a lot of hits if you google it, so if you want to buy one, just
google it.
In my opinion this is the beste gaming laptop you can get for
this money, and dont be scared by the "ONLY 2,00Ghz"
proccesor, because if done the research, its faster than any
Core2Duo found in any laptop, so this is the right way to go.
I hope you all will post your opinions and other info that you have
about this amazing machine.

Close to 10k marks? your having a laugh arnt you, out of the box the model will score 10222 or so
Mine did anyway, and thats the 512mb hehe.
Just be slightly careful though, its faster then any core 2 duo in multithread games and standard windows enviroment, but all the oldies (which dont really need anything more then 2 ghz) will run anyway.
Whats the res on that thing?
And grats on the decision to buy !
Cata -
Ye, i know about the multithreaded games and such.
Most games i play support multi-cores so no problem there.
The 512MB version is slightly faster, cuz the more memory
the slower, thats a fact.
Its a WSXGA screen running on 1680 x 1050, but i dont need
more, so ppl who want more, just buy a laptop over
2000 euro's.
And thnx -
Well there is a 1080p res avail on some models,, but are you sure the 512 is faster? itl more likely get dwarfed at full HD resolution, thats a fact
I recon they will be the same.
And welcome to Note book review -
Well, the 1GB can be faster if more than 512MB
is used in an application or game.
But if it uses less than 512MB, then the one
with less memory is a little faster, but
you shouldn't be able to notice it, unless you compare
benchmarks. But i prefer the 1GB model,
i have a ATI Radeon Sapphire HD4850 1GB Vapor-X
in my desktop atm.
And thnx for the warm welcome -
ahhh finally a dutch guy
Do you know when it's going to be released ?
Centralpoint.nl shows a waiting time of 2 weeks..
Btw: yeah I know, i'm new.. -
Good luck with the notebook, keep posting stuff related to this model. -
I think it will be released in the next 10 days.
-
I hope it's not a direct relation in price, because I've been waiting out for this, but don't want to shell out $400 more for a simple graphics card upgraded model of their current model.
-
Will it come with a Windows 7 upgrade program ?
-
Well it's close to be an upgrade, current model is supporting al the latest in hardware.
Might get DDR3 mem and better support for CPU Turbo mode. -
I dont know about the upgrade program, but
from what i understand, the drivers for windows 7
are already out there. So maybe ill download
the RC, build 7100 64bit and run it for free
until 10 june 2010. I wont be out there untill
then, it will get delayed and stuff, so dont count
on it to be out sooner. -
All drivers are Windows 7 Compatible for the MS-1722 series.
-
I am definitely thinking of getting one of these. Unfortunately I can't get 100% confirmed specs from my retailer (about the optical drive and screen res etc) so will have to wait a while to see.

Ye, thats a good idea, i dont know where you life, but they always had these type numbers, im ordering the 017nl version, all 017nl are the same, although some retailers change out proc's and optical drives.
-
I am waiting WUXGA model. As there was one in 725 210UK. and there was WSXGA model 087UK. If someone stumbles on uk version numbers for 729, post it here please.
-
As far as I know, there isnt gonna be a gt729 uk model, some ppl might say so, or hope so, but im just being realistic, dont count on it.
In my opion, WSXGA is more than enough on a 17' Inch screen, i mean, but
22' Inch has the same res, 1680 x 1050, and its very very sharp.
I dont really think you need more than WSXGA on a 17' Inch notebook,
but thats just my opion, it may be nice for a 1080p movie, but
in games, it just sux ur graphic card dry, without improving the graphics that
much. But if you dont game, and have loads of 1080p movies, and have the
money for it, then im not stopping you. -
Why not lol? the UK got some great models in the past as well as No screens with bleed, at all.
-
What I'd like to see is one in Australia this time. They released all the other 17in notebooks here except for the GT725, so I had to order one from the US
-
Well, because the UK got the GT725 which is a similar model, i know, the gt729 is a little better with the extended video memory, ddr3 upgrade, but still, the gt725 is amazing, and i think that if there would be a UK model, they would have released some specs right now. Its the same as the GT725 in the netherlands. The never released any specs, and it got delayed and again and again. Im just saying, the might release one, but i wouldnt count on in. And about Australia, i have absolutly no clue what they are planning to release there. If you want that kind of info, i guess you have to mail with MSI themselfs.
-
Hmm i just think they will because its a new model, its exploiting the chipset and hardware more, i hope they work on an SLI based machine at some point, a dual 4850 machine would be godly!
-
If you want such a godly model, take a look at the Asus W90, it has a 4870 in crossfire. But such a notebook costs around 2250 euro's.
This notebook is more than enough for the games of now, it may not take GTA IV to the max, but thats one strange game if you ask me, the specs you need i mean. If you buy a notebook around 1500 euro's now, you get a great model, take the 700 euro's you save now, save a little money over 2 or 3 years, then buy a new one. Thats my opinion, cuz the 4870 in CF is better now, but it only gets to like 15000 3dmarks with the proccesor limitations, so its not that much better. In 3 years, even with that notebook, you will want to buy a new one. -
With upgrades blade, we can hit 14k with the MSI machine, and its half the price
, W90 is good but i prefer mobility and gaming to be honest as well as freekishly cool overclocking for the GPU.
-
14k sound real nice, what upgrades are we talking here?
-
qx9300 really, and a volt increase, thats it.
-
Yes, but what does a qx9300 cost?
-
400 or so which brings the cost to about 1500, putting it higher then any single GPU solution around
If MSI add multipliers, it just will get even better from there -
Well, im going for the 017nl model with the q9000 proc, but thats already 1500 euro's. So im not spending another 400 on a small proc upgrade
-
Heck, q series processor is good enough im using it right now
, now that the I series processor may come into full time usage the prices should shrink dramatically.
-
Yes, and i calculated, in turbo mobde the p9500 in the gt725 goes up from 2,53ghz to 2,93ghz, so thats a 16% increase, the q9000 should go up to 2,3ghz or maybe even 2,4ghz, i dont know how much heat it produces, so will depend on that i guess.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAH Dont fall into that TRAP!
The Q9000 can NOT overclock via button! I say agian can NOT!
The Q9000 can overclock to the numbers you say,yes but only via modification. The max record for q9000 is 2.8Ghz stable, but our ram does not allow us to do that. -
Ah, well, i got info from my retailer that it can, but we will see. I dont really care, would be cool if it could, but he
If it can ill post it here, as soon as mine will arrive.
-
I believe that the gt725 212us cannot, but the GT729 should be able to do it, with the Q9000, and mine has 1066mhz ddr3 ram, not 800mhz ddr2, like the gt725.
-
Some people got in touch with MSI (I dont believe the 729 will but will be godly if it does as you can back up the bios
)
MSI said it doesnt need OC feature as it only looses 1-2 frame in single thread games then the duo version (which is actually quite accurate.) -
Ah, ok. Well, i hope it does have an OC feature, but i dont care if it doesnt. For now, lets just say; it does not have an OC feature, if it does, ill post it
-
Anyone else got some info they would like to put up here? been really quitte here
-
The GT729 US model will be available in early September..
-
-
Yeah, i slug mine over the joint easily, i haev no issues with gt725 portability at all
And i wrap it twice before i put it into the cheap laptop bag i got for £4, haha.
-
So is it worth it to wait two more months for a laptop that has DDR3 and twice the framebuffer compared to the GT725?
-
Depends, if ur old laptop is good enough for you now, then, sure, why not.
-
Don't really have a laptop right now. I just want to avoid buying something now and find out soon after that I could have gotten something better for the same price later. Already did that once. Wasn't fun.
Other than that . . . any reviews on it? A Google search only finds the press release. -
-
Yeah, neils right, you cant keep up with technology, its changing too fast, the new model supports ddr3 ram (probably better for overclocking) but the stock performance increase wont be really noticable, so either way buying now will still yield close results (except that 1gb of vram can come in handy for more situations)
-
Ok fair enough. Still the GT725 and GT729 look like great notebooks. I asked a local retailer if the 725 could be ordered in but they said no. Only available in the UK apparently. Newegg has it but I don't know what they're like when ordering laptops. Any info on it yet other than the press releases?
Gonna wait a little bit anyways. Decided to upgrade the PC and the wallet is hurting. -
I've found a great review on the GT725
http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=724
But i've done the research, the G725 and 729 are the
best choice for you money right now.
The build quality is excellent, very good speakers,
the display is very clear and the perfect resolution.
And well, the performance speaks for itself, just amazing.
Only thing that i can think off that i dont like about these
two are the very small arrow keys, thats it. -
I cant seem to find it in UK either to be honest, newegg are a very reliable service and are recognised throughout the whole NBR community.
You should also try xoticpc, but what blade is quoting, is entirely accurate. -
Hey cataclysm, i just found this review on newegg:
Best bang for the buck right now...
Pros: After extensive review of gaming laptops I chose this one and couldn't be happier. Q9000 @ 2.0 Ghz. that ramps up to 2.4 when ya hit the turbo OC button. The motherboard accepts up to a T9600 @ 2.8 Ghz. if ya wanna go for even more cpu speed.Quad helps for multimedia but not really for gaming.Radeon HD 4850 handles everything I've thrown at it gaming wise.7200 rpm 320 gig hard drive.Blu ray player dvd recorder.4 gigs of RAM.17 inch wuxga screen is clear and bright. As someone else said earlier it is not bundled with a lot of bloatware.Very pleased with this purchase.I do recommend a laptop cooler to set it on.May as well since it is a huge laptop and you wont be playing it with it on your lap!
Cons: NONE
This guy says that the q9000 goes up to 2,4ghz with the OC turbo button,
now, i dont know what to believe
