Went to try out the switchable graphics (Intel),
    1. pressed button - rebooted, worked fine
    2. updated drivers - rebooted worked fine
    3. pressed button again to switch back to dedicated gpu (nvidia) - rebooted no display

So there's no display/bios/logo or anything, gets to windows login (still no display) and I press enter and my password and logs right in as I see the rgb keyboard light up. Still no display though. Tried testing external display (monitor) and still no go.

tl:dr - switched Intel, switched nvidia now no display

Press the battery reset hole and see if it helps.

Tried it and still no go, it would still boot to windows and there would be no display.

Power down the machine, and reseat the GPU card. Please make sure the connection is secure.

If that does not work try running it without the gpu in at all.

Try reinstall driver for gpu (remove from device manager) or you could try boot into safe mode after you've pressed the swichable gpu button see if it works....

Try older version of nvidia driver.

When switched, does the system show BIOS screen at all? Or it's just no display completely?

Well I know it goes to windows since i blindly type the logins and the keyboard leds light up but the screen still is blank, no BIOS/logos just goes straight to logins w/o the screen being on (SSD activity/type password and keyboard lights up). But I finally fixed it after the previous recommendations :) :

    1. Opened the bottom of the laptop.
    2. Removed heatsink and removed the GPU.
    3. Turned on the laptop and it 'forced' itself to go back to onboard GPU (Intel).
    4. Boots up with onboard GPU (Intel) where I tried to uninstall drivers or restore the ones I had previously before.
    5. Put back the dedicated GPU (nVidia) and try it again.
    6. Doesn't work, same thing for a good 2-3 times.

    7. Not sure if this did it but for the 4th time or so installing/reinstalling the GPU, I went to BIOS and changed UEFI to UEFI with CSM.
    8. Rebooted and to Windows w/ onboard GPU (Intel), pressed the switch, rebooted.
    9. GPH switch turns on and MSI display pops up, windows loads with nVidia GPU :O!!!!!!!

So I managed to fix it that way.

tl;dr: removed gpu to force onboard, tried to switch back to dedicated/uninstall previous drivers = no go, switch UEFI to UEFI w/ CSM, tried it again and it worked... odd.

Thanks for all the help and input everyone [IMG]

May be a VBIOS issue stopping pure UEFI mode working perhaps.

I think there may have been a bug or a slight glitch when switching from the Intel to nVidia, I updated my BIOS since to the latest and it reverted back to the defaults so its showing up as pure UEFI again and working fine so it could be a VBIOS bug and the nVidia not kicking in when needed.

So with the new Firmware its working fine without going in with UEFI/CSM. Reason i ask is i have the same model with a 970M also and for basic stuff using the Intel iGPU would be handy but i have been seeing people reporting this very issue in many threads including MSI's forums.

I am on the latest and greatest EC and BIOS firmware which for my GT72-6QD is

    1782EMS1.109 EC
    E1782IMS.112 BIOS

But totally scared on pressing that button.

It's hard to determine right now, I myself isn't going to use the iGPU for a while lol after giving me that scare during Christmas but going from nvidia to Intel and working on Intel as fine, it was going back from Intel to nvidia that may have bugged out. Not sure if it was a driver bug telling nvidia to kick in or if it was bios. Only reason why I think it may have been bios and/or vbios was the fact that I got into windows (blindly logging in) but the display was still off and it wasn't till I took out the card physically and saved the bios to compat mode then putting back the card for it to work. So it may be a ufei bug hehe. I never really used ufei on desktop so I had no clue what to do when it happened till I started testing stuff that people recommended.

Well after doing a clean clean install of Windows 10 on my Laptops Sm951 NVME I had to press said button to install the Intel drivers and I didn't get the dreaded black screen issue. So now I not scared to press the GPU switch button anymore.
