Hi all,
As the ongoing MSI disaster train continues to roll down the track our friends at @Eurocom Support present to us the answer we all knew that MSI was lying about upgradability.

We knew from other users that had successfully tested the GPUs that the GT72 was the least of problems when it came to upgrading. At least you got a much better machine through the trade in program compared to the cost of upgrading the GPU on your previous machine.
Prices for GPU upgrades are considerably more expensive than I expected. I was thinking the 1080 variant would be the one to cost 800ish per GPU. Hell, if anything, this actually makes the prices of the MSI program to be cheaper than upgrading.
The cost of going from my GT80 to the GT83 with 1070 SLI would be at the most 1400dlrs, and it would net me an entirely better machine, compared to 1700dlrs for GPU upgrades alone, keeping my old GT80.
I am actually glad they did the MSI program instead of using these prices. Though I am sure these prices are like this, because Eurocom has to earn money somehow, they wouldn't upgrade for freeKevin@GenTechPC, hmscott and MiSJAH like this. -

Honestly the trade in got me a new laptop, for the cost of buying my own 1070, without dealing with the compatibility issues.
In the end it was the far better deal.Beemo, Kevin@GenTechPC, ryzeki and 1 other person like this. -
And in many other countries there was no such program at all. Shame on MSI.

I dunno, this is a better deal than anyone in the US received. That's going from a 980M to a GTX 1080. I paid $900 USD to go from a 980M to a 1070.
I do realize some other EU countries weren't so lucky. -
I spent hours/days interacting with MSI and their customers and their resellers and their social media.
I found someone that had traded from a GT72S with a 980M to GT73VR 7RF for the same amount and asked MSI to match it for me based on "comparable cost to previous MXM upgrades" so his trade costs from 980M and mine should be exactly the same.
I suspect they honoured more out of hope that it would shut me up and I'd go silently into the night.......that didn't work. The MSI mis-sold GT72 & GT80 with MXM Graphics thread on OcUK is still going strong with around 60K unique views and 1,100+ comments.
If anyone is UK based and wants to interact about taking it forwards, I'm always happy to help. Shoot me a pm. -
That's an insane deal, I went to a GT73VR 7RE w 7820HK and 1070, trade up from a GT72 2QE w i7 5700 w 980M 4gb, cost was $700US. -
No luck for me, Polish customers are second-class customers.
Looks like I'm left only with one option, sell my current MSI laptop and never go back.

Worth checking which 1070 Eurocom are offering for this model
The rectangular 100W 1070 variant is by all indications an inferior card to the bigger, annoying shaped MSI 1070 (stock 115W)
The Eurocom card looks identical to the Gecube card that was blowing its FETs at 115W when released a few months ago until recalled.
cf/ @Coolane blew something on his MSI 1070 furmarking it (aka. GPU torture) at 200+W and multiple people incl. myself have TDP modded them in excess of 150W without issue.
Worst case scenario, Eurocom are using the exact same gecube card just down-limited its power draw meaning there is absolutely no power headroom in the design; best case they fixed the VRM setup, the 100W limit is just overly conservative. Time will tell.
Edit : eurocom screenshots now show a 115W power limitLast edited: Oct 15, 2017 -
I'm curious though as to where those traded old models go after they swapped it out with a newer model? They resell it as refurbished? -
My GT72's chassis was so beaten up, they probably pulled the SSD, GPU and CPU, then trash binned the rest. -

Be sure to use the term 'MSI has reneged on their advertised upgrade path'.
If you do not hear back within 24 hours, drop me a pm and I will provide direct contact details. -
I sent them several emails to that email address they keep saying wait
-
even threatened with court action
-
do you know any contact details of their managers?

Hi I've only just found out about this sadly late to the party so I know it's not likely to come of anything . Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to see if they will still honour the upgrade figure it can't hurt to try I have a
GT72S 6QF 29th anniversary edition from the UK. -
Email: [email protected]
Explaining you'd like to take part in the 'trade in, upgrade' program.
Post back here with their reply. -
Still waiting for a response was told to wait 5 days now I'm getting told it's only been 3 weeks and they have no idea when I will get a response.
-
Finally got this as a response.
Apologies for the delay in response. The MXM upgrade program ended officially on December 31st 2017. We did extend this for a period of time after the closing date to accommodate customers who had emailed within the year long trade in period, but unfortunately we cannot accept any further trade in requests so long after the closing date.
Thank you for your enquiry and apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Kind regards
MSI UK Notebook
Any ideas what I can do next -
Email them asking why they restricted the timeline for their high ticket customers.
Ask them how the will recompense customers that have only just become aware of the situation now.
Ask them why they had not contacted you directly as a registered MSI customer.
Post their response here.
Good luck. -
No luck sadly they refusing to do anything basically said I have to dispute it with the reseller overclockers who also refuse to replace the laptop as they say it's not there problem. Sadly can't afford to go to court so cannot continue. Thanks for the help though

Yeah way to late got it on pre order when it first came out 2016

Ask them if there will be a following trade in program once the next nvidia rtx gpu series releases. I inquired in Nov 2018 with my rep who took care of my upgrade moving from a GT72 2QE 1666 to GT73 VR 7RE 427 Titan which I received April 2017. I wanted to confirm my remaining warranty and he responded w my serial number and warranty valid until 4/2019. He also stated that stay tuned for an announcement that the unit would be eligible for 2nd and final upgrade, now whether one will actually occur since they had huge issues with the last one no one knows. I chose to sell my GT73 and I downgraded to a like new hardly used mint GT72S 6QF-061 4K model w 980 GTX 8gb and $500 cash into my jeans . Once the next GT upgrade is offered if so I am going to see if they will allow me to upgrade with this unitLast edited: Dec 20, 2018 -
Said they have no new on any further upgrade programs all a big con to be honest still don't get how they have been allowed to get away with this scam -
Also, OcUK are the supplier you have an agreement with (The Sale of Goods Act 1979). The machine is not fit for purpose. They advertised the ugradeability of the GPU's on their website. Use waybackmachine to find your machine with the MXM upgrade advertised and send it to them asking them to reconsider a full refund before you look to take legal action. -
Thanks for the help misjah saw your post about the lawsuit on another forum. Have contacted the BBC regarding this and they said they are interested and will discuss it further in the new year so hopefully that get this the media attention it deserves
-
The other forum is where I am most readily available.
Please let me know how you get on.
Thanks. -
Perfect will do

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
On top of this i still have the original BOX with the advertisement on it about MXM Upgrades will just need to go into the attic to get it.
Currently using the laptop as we speak to type this, the card has been Overclocked as well temps never go above 85c (With TDP mods) else it stays as 75c tops after hours of gaming, with no issues other then modding drivers to get things working such as the GPU and Nahimic 3 which also works on this system.MiSJAH likes this. -
Well rip off Britain was a dead end they say that it was investigated and think it's fair for me to return the laptop for less than half my money back due to its age. ..
I think untill the us lawsuit goes through nothing will change. -
I'd be interested to know how you managed to get nahamic 3 working on the laptop I haven't had any success does it also allow you to use the spdif in the headphone jack?
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
There is a dedicated thread on Nahimic 3 for unsupported hardware in the MSI area, check it out.
