My MSI GT72 has the power adapter disconnect for about 1/2 a second while gaming after every 10-20 minutes.
Fidgeting with the pin in the socket does not reproduce the result.
Occasionally happens while I'm just browsing, but that is rare.
Anyone have a similar issue? Is my charger fried or is it a bigger problem to do with the laptop itself?

Its either your power pack or your motherboard/battery.
Do you have a power pack you can switch ?
I had the same problem, even using a spare power pack the computer wouldn't run of the mains and so it wouldn't charge.
I had to RMA it with MSI and have the motherboard repaired/switched.
Also make sure your power pack isn't covered by anything and has space to breath, I guess overheating may cause problems if its on a bed and covered or something. -
I just had mine repaired from the same fault.
In my case also it was the power jack on the motherboard. I RMA'ed it and they put a new motherboard in thankfully a few days before warranty ran out...

The amount of units that had this issue happen is shocking... I'm so glad mine was fixed 1 month before the warranty expired! (I had 3 months extra warranty for registering my unit online - thank god!)

Some recommendations such as providing sufficient slack on the cable can help to reduce such stress. -
The soldering job on them is not good and overtime it gets broken. The actual cable is pretty solid in the hole, there's no problem there. -

Actually, that's the part which gets broken off sometimes, but it's at MSI's discretion whether to charge a customer for physical damage or not.

Surely that's just a manufacturing defect. Thankfully, as far as I have seen, they do replace them in an RMA. -

DC jack can be broken off from the PCB not because of failing solder. In your case since it was a failing solder then it was warranted. -

1. DC jack can be soldered back if it's melted solder.
2. Motherboard needs to be replaced if DC jack broke off from it which caused PCB damage.
