    Hi there,

This is a replacement laptop from MSI received last October as my first GT72 Dominator Pro had some issues.

It has been very lightly used, however since last Friday the laptop starts to develop some issues, I just simply could not power it up. Every time when trying to power the laptop, it shuts down a few seconds later and then after 3 seconds or so it tries to power up again but failed, it will cycle like this forever. [IMG] [IMG]

I've recorded this and upload it to youtube, please go and have a look, any help will be appreciated.

Seems like a hardware malfunction to me. Sorry to say that you may need to talk with MSI yet again about this laptop.

An EC reset might help, but since the battery is not removable, contacting MSI should be your first resort.

You definitely need to get with MSI again.
Not sure this is your exact issue but I read some things at Toms Hardware or Anandtech the other day about what might cause power cycling on and off.
Basically, the articles stated that the main board is reacting to an error, or an unsafe condition. The three most common problems are; the main board sees No CPU fan, the main board thinks the CPU is at an overheated condition, or the main board is bad.
This may or may not be the cause of your situation, but I hope it sheds some light.

    Thanks, RMPG505.

I applied for repair service on MSI UK site, but still waiting for them to get back to me, so far nothing happened.

The laptop will occasionally boot up without getting into the power cycle, so looks like the mainboard is OK.

The fact that it occasionally boots up, still could be a sign the m/b is in process of dying.
I hope MSI gets with you soon. I know it's stressful waiting. Call or email them daily. Best wishes!

Can you get into BIOS during this power cycle? If you can, then the issue might be different.

These are usually symptoms of POST running into an error during its tests; sometimes devices that can pick up on the exact process causing the interrupt/reboot will spit out a code that will help shed light on where the problem lay (lie? lies? I always forget the proper verbiage with that). But anyways, yes: Seems like an unfortunate hardware malfunction.

@mozi - If they're not getting back to your emails in a timely manner, give them a call. Being put on hold can still be much quicker than waiting 24+ hours to possibly not hear anything back at all.
