    Hi

I have an MSI GT70 0ND-219US that has some funky problems with it. I bought it off ebay a few months back knowing that it didn't power on. I replaced the AC adapter as the one that it shipped with didn't output any power but this did not fix the issue so I took a look at the motherboard and found that a small chip near the power jack had been fried. I now have a new motherboard in the laptop that allows me to power it up BUT with a few problems. I'm hoping that there's a simple solution to get it all working.

    Problems are:

    • Nothing shows on the screen, even if I try an external monitor. The external monitor doesn't even react when I power on the laptop.
    • The keyboard does not light up
    • The button to turn the track pad on/off is always on and cannot be turned off.
    • The function keys at the top are acting strange, I press one but it changes another. For example, I press what looks like a screen and it makes the fan speed up.

The motherboards are almost identical. They are both MS-17621 but the old one is version 1.0 and the new one is version 2.1. Do I need to somehow change the BIOS? But how can I do this without a display?

    Any help or advice please?!

I'd really love to be wrong, but the first thing that goes through my head is that there's more stuff to fry in a machine than just the motherboard...

I'm of the opinion that you should visit an electronics repair shop and have a techie check there are no shorts on the main communicating components.

I think you should also get in contact with an MSI service, and keep switching support people until you find someone that understands the issue.

It seems I'm in the exact same situation, I ordered a version 1.0 online but they sent me a version 2.1 and I can't seem to get the screen to turn on. Any idea how to solve this?
