    Good day everyone,

I had to replace gtx 675M (dead) with 680M on my MSI GT70 0nd-202US laptop

    CPU: Intel i7-3610QM
GTX 675M is the original card (now dead)
    Motherboard: MS-1762
Chipset: HM77 / Intel Ivy Bridge

I bought it on ebay and in the description it was said that it is compatible with MSI GT70. Later seller confirmed that as well. This is the item:

NVIDIA GeForce Dell GTX 680M 2GB DDR5 for MSI Clevo Alienware Upgrademonkey | eBay

It is a green card. On some forums I read that you have to use the blue one for clevo. But as I said in the description in was said that it's compatible for MSI GT70.

Anyway, after installation I got no POST and black screen. If I remove the GTX 680M everything works and loads normally again.

My question is is there anything that can be done to get the laptop to work with this graphics card (BIOS update maybe? There are no official BIOS updates on MSI's

website though... My current BIOS version is 10U) or I just should return it to the seller?

P.S. GTX 675M died after a BSOD. It started returning 43 error code in both Windows 8.1 (where the BSOD happened) and in Windows 7. It showed other signs of hardware failure after the BSOD like the fan spinning at full speed. I have tried many things to save that card but nothing worked.

    Thank you,
    Evgeny

It's possible the motherboard can't handle the 100W GPU, since it required a special modification to provide that power.
The other thing is the board can cause that problem if it's already defective, sometimes it's not always the graphics card issue.

    EDIT:
Noticed that the card is a DELL card, so it may need VGA BIOS update. Someone has released such tutorial on the forum.

Thank you for your reply, Kevin@GenTechPC.

Both 675M and 680M have 100w power consumption. If the vBios is the case, how can I flash it when I can't get to POST screen and BIOS settings with the card installed?

Since you can't see the display, so you may have to blank flash it using AUTOEXEC.BAT method I believe.
But there's no way to know which is faulty right now since you didn't upgrade from a fully functional system.

In case I'm allowed to flash vBIOS, which one would I use? Here is the list of available .rom files:
    Video Bios Collection | techPowerUp
On the item's description page it's mentioned that the card is 720/1800MHz. Should I use the NVIDIA 80.04.67.00.01 719 / 1800 version or the MSI 80.04.33.00.24 771 / 900 is the only option here?

    Thank you

I was told by a person who had the same upgrade and black screen issue that there is 2GB version of MSI vBIOS which is what I need to flash in order for this Dell 680m 2GB card to work. I know that I should not flash 4GB version vBIOS or the card could be bricked.

Does anyone happen to have the same card with MSI 2GB vBIOS and would you be able to upload the .rom here?

    Thank you in advance,
    Evgeny

MSI has only release a 4GB Version of the GTX680M...

You can try to flash your systembios to 51x, here is the Bios incl EC Firmware for the MS-1762 Zippyshare.com
