so ask the title says, i'm looking for the best SSD that is Compatible 120-240gb
possible 2 smaller drives 80gb or so apiece for raid 0 if thats not too difficult to do with this laptop. also within a decent price range so far i'm kinda tossed between the Corsair Force GT's and Intel 520 Cherryville's.
Anyhow i could really use some help and as far as i know the mounting hardware should be already inplace, but i'll double check! thanks again in advanced.

p.s i'm looking to replace the current 750gb drive and just run the SSD for everything

Try search for a Crucial M4. They are going pretty cheap and also reliable. Go for an Intel if it doesn't cost much more.

Have you installed a hard disk into a laptop before? Installing an SSD is the same thing.

thanks for your input, so is almost any SSD gonna be compatible? i'm worried about Bios/Firmware issues so i want someone who has this laptop and an SSD installed already so i know there shouldn't be a problem

Any SSD should be compatible man. Its just another hard drive. The BIOS don't really have anything to do with it. (Raid or ACHI mode will suffice). However, definitely get a sata 3 (6gbps) because the controller will support it. If you want the greatest deals, go to techbargains.com and search for "SSD". I just seen a 280gb sandisk on there for like $250! That was a couple days ago, so it may be expired? Its a good drive for the price. Intel is high end and will cost a little more per GB . Its worth it though. I just recently picked up a Samsung 830 256gb for about $240. Its screaming fast. No issues. The vertex 4 is also a great contender. Honestly, just use that site and you can't go wrong for the best current deals. Before you upgrade though, Google for an SSD optimization guide. It will walk you through the steps needed, and some preferred, to make a safe transition. ;)

Yeah, they probably have their own utility for SSD management like samsung's magician software. Though, the Intel rapid storage technology app will manage all drives no matter what. If that's what you mean?

Note: I highly recommended setting some things up PRIOR to installing the drive. Its make for a better upgrade, and less annoyances in the future. That's why you should look into a guide on the internet.

There really isn't any need to to any optimization when you are running Windows 7. Just do a clean install (allow the Windows 7 installer create the partitions on the SSD) and all will be fine.

as far as i can tell the intel 520 series is not as fast as the Corsair or Samsung 830

You won't notice the difference in anything besides benchmarks. Most of all, aim to get something that's reliable and unlikely to fail and cause problems.

    Great choice,
I've chosen the same SSD as upgrade to my GT 70 (base config), Samsung 830, but in the 128GB version.
