    hi,
i am getting really high temperatures on my GT70 2pc during normal web browsing with a few tabs open and some light photo editing...my temperatures are upwards of 97C on the CPU.

That's the level capped by BIOS to prevent system from further overheating.
Did you work on your NB's internal before?

Have you cleaned your vents and/or laptop lately?

What is the load on the CPU? Maybe something is taxing your CPU to 100%. Also, remember to clean the vents and the notebook with at least compressed aire to avoid dust buildup. Do this while the machine is powered down.

I had a very similar issue with my GT60 2OD. When playing intensive CPU games (like GTA V) the temps got very high, about 100°.In fact, my lappy shut down when CPU temps raised even more (with turbo fan on).

Then I opened it up to clean it and discovered that one of the spacer/standoffs to screw CPU heatsink was loose.

Now my temps never get even close to 85-90°s. What did I do?

I undervolted a little the CPU (-80mV), used super glue to stick the spacer to the MoBo, replaced that 1mm thermal pads that I had with some 0.5mm (both 6 W/mk) and finally repasted with gelid extreme. Some of those things I did definitely helped, it's just I'm not sure which of them was the most important (I suppose it is the spacer to attach the heatsink to MoBo) xD

I didn't experience the overheating issues but I had the exact same thing, actually the same spacer/mount separate from the motherboard on my GT60 2OD. I fixed it with an electrically pcb safe silicone adhesive. It did the job and allowed me to still use the mount.

I know I never over torqued the screw. And since you also had the issue my guess is a defect from MSI at the plant. Who knows many the same person built our boards.
