    Hey all.

So I recently snagged a pretty decent deal on an MSI GT70 but it appears mine came without the Super Raid board. The laptop itself says it is optional, and I've seen the Super Raid 2 (mSATA) board is available on ebay for about $95.

My question is, if I am able to find a Super Raid 3 board (which currently there dont seem to be any on ebay), is it compatible with this laptop? I'd much rather have the m.2 connectors rather than the standard mSATA connectors.

    Thanks

No, it's not compatible, because the pin-outs are different.
Super RAID 3 is for GT72.

Thanks for the response. I think I was basically coming to determine that for myself, that despite the fact that there are 2 GT70 product pages stating that the SuperRaid3 is available on the GT70 that it appears to be incorrect information.

Super Raid 3 with m.2 mentioned halfway down on this GT70 page despite not being supported:

If you check the specs for the individual models, none of them state anything besides mSATA, and indeed going to a custom site like Xoticpc, they only offer mSATA drives for those specific models. Kind of a bummer, but I can accept it. Thanks again.

I later found this PDF as well from MSI further breaking down the models and their individual interfaces.

My last question is... why does it seem they are limiting the size of the drives in Super Raid? The interface card is mentioned to support up to 3x 256GB mSATA drives, why wouldnt it work if I put 3x 512GB drives?

That's manufacturer spec, but there's no limitation in capacity so you can definitely equip 3x 512GB without any issues.
