What I want to know is when will this go on sale in the US. Looks pretty nice!
-
I think this is the first enthusiast level 16" gaming rig anyone's ever offered. Up until now the 16" screens haven't had a top end GPU. -
I agree with you there bud, although there has been another user posting the vram for GX640 will be GDDR5, which would put the 640 at equal or possibly better standing then this machine.
Unless were talking raw 16"
Although i have to say, this is in a whole new area of its own, being raw power entertainment based twisted with mainstream goodness. -
The notebook is ugly...why does MSI insist on copying all Asus designs?
-
Ugly!
To me it more looks like a slightly understated AW than a ASUS.
I gotta say this laptop looks like a winner spec wise, and the GX640 has a HD 5850,performance will easily be better with the 285M GTX in the GT660.If we were talking HD 5870 It would be a different story but that's another topic
OK no DX11 but no big loss games still look awesome in DX10.
I like it, now at least we have another option that has a 285M GTX. -
And even this doesn't look like either of them, it just fits in and has much more features then the two, (3d, decent speakers, usb 3.0) I don't care to much about the others tbh, they were released, and ASUS sometimes run hot (Dependant on model and size) the alienware suffers from problems (Except the m11x although even a couple of probs here and there are ok.)
It was apparently designed by both msi and the speaker company to have best quality where it comes to heat dispersion and sound quality.

Nice find bro!
I just hope that some of the past MSI problems don't surface up on this model(keyboard flex, touchpad wear, subpar cooling-my old 1652-ID2)
This has a 3D screen?
Don't know if I really want that feature, hopefully you can pick not to have it or at least the lower res screen doesn't have it.Meh!
Any chance it had a backlit keyboard?
Man this thing looks better and better every time I see it. -
Yeah i'm really liking the machine,
Got some more pictures to come for the thread, will update later. -
I'm not too sure that fnatic.com didn't get their info crossed between the GT660 and MSI's 3D All-in-one.
No where else confirms that the GT660 will have a 3D 120Hz screen. -
Just noticed it has the TURBO feature!
Sweet! That's amazing since the new i7 CPUs already Turbo themselves and any additional overclocking is a good thing.
I thought this feature might be missing just for that reason.Win! -
This notebook seems aggressively thin given that GPU and dual HDDs. It's basically delivering what the G51 did with a much stronger card.
edit: Here's a PR guy jawing about the GT 660. I also love how the Hexus guy sets up the obvious marketing points with little to no enthusiasm

Gah no, hopefully MSI's machine won't have horrid gpu temperatures from stock model.
But it is a nice change from MSI's standard models which seem very sleek and professional rather then gaming (Which this model should shine in that area) -
Thumbnailing pictures for here actually (Previously accidental post!)
Wish i was at CeBit, i'm having to guess this.
The machine itself, looking rather nice with a totally different style to their normal as they switch out to an attractive plastic chasis.
Touchpad with indicators, you can see the bluetooth indicator, wifi, battery, sleep and hard drive activity lighting, touch pad looks as if its some form of matt material with a shiny silver coating although it may be prone to usage burn, the touchpad buttons are joint from the looks of things and the touchpad trimming could either be some form of metal or some metalic plastic coating.
These look nice, one of the speakers right here however when looking close up, it actually does look as if it has a small driver, not a conventional laptop speaker.
A nice, and rather spacious chiclet keyboard with the standard MSI highlights on the keys!
The keyboard is probably not backlit, fn functions are split between fn keys and primary arrows (Handy) and guess what, the lovely FN and Ctrl key got a lovely swap round! (YES!)
Featuring a number pad however the 0 lower left key has been cut down so that the right arrow primary key is shared onto the area, i suppose its not too inconvenient!
Here we have the laptops right side, the CD drive, which is actually seeming rather small? We also have a usb 3.0 slot, a headphone, microphone and possibly line in and out unless (Since working with a pro audio company) this allows for aditional speakers like a front/rear/sub/microphone configuration?
Here we have the lid, now personally i think its really good, taking the msi logo in the middle, plonking it in some hex like shape, then having the lid shaped by firing out from it is pretty nifty, you can see some more of the MSI's plasting (We will most likely find the trims are actually metal) and the surface seems like it could be either glossy or matt for the plastic.
Rear view of some of the main features of the machine, backwards firing power input! huraaay, no more cabling issues haha, Ethernet, VGA, an e-sata port and HDMI (Pretty standard with msi machines).
The main touch sensor plate of the machine along with the on button (A shield or crest?) will probably light up a certain colour too, and on the right communications control (Also note f8 and f9 have communication function?) and another button which i'm not sure about, possibly eco options etc?
Heres a picture of the texture on the machine and the material used, seems like its possibly hybrid of plastic (Gloss) and pure gray hexagons, unless this is another material for aditional grip, could be maybe some form of rubber? (Doubtful)
Another picture of the speaker again, and a P1 key, so programable shortcuts? (I don't actually have p keysbut i know some barebones do!)
High quality of specs!
I think its great.
Pics from newgadgets.de (I think they got to it first haha!) -
NICE!
great pics,I could do without the honeycomb pattern on the palmrest but hey no laptop is perfect. -
Aye, its definately different, the honeycomb will either make the texture seem completely flat, or there may be a bit of a raise in texture, its hard to say.
Raid support too apparently!
On the left side, 3 usb 3.0 ports, card reader, another vent (3 total) So here will be the primary fan. -
Is it gonna have 2 fans?
That would be a good idea.1 for the CPU and 1 for the GPU. -
Any words out on an approximative price?
-
Less than 2000 euros, but i don't expect this thing to come cheap, maybe 1.8k slightly less.
-
UGH!
I hope your wrong bro!
Anything over $1500 is too much. -
One person mentioned 1500-2000 euros. Personally, I feel it has to come in under 1800 USD (preferably under 1600 USD) to make it attractive. If it was over 1800, I'd just start looking at 17 inch solutions and choose the G73 or MSI's very own GX740.
-
I hope i'm wrong too, but a Nvidia gpu (Expensive) and its highest end by them, apparent 120hz 3d screen + decent speakers + all that other junk,
I'd say 1500 Is a good price, but its hard to say, they just claimed it would be less then 2k, and maybe less then 1.8 (If i recall) i hope its cheap tho!
Theres alot of good stuff MSI have and its nicely priced too so i hope they don't let us down! -
I like how they made the indicator lights part of the touchpad.
No pictures of the underside or battery though? And not too sure if I saw an Express Card slot or not in the hands-on video. -
edit: nvm, definitely an SD slot
-
Haven't got any undersides yet, although if hexus get their mits on it they might flip it over (Atleast i hope so!)

haha.
Phin, i believe that will most likely be the express port. -

Lol i was just going to post that same image Anex! haha
My moneys on it being a led light strip
Express port, i don't think so, its more white,
Unless this thing does have lights
But i'd be all over that thing if i was at cebit! -
Yeah me too!
After I was through with it they would have to wipe it down, for fingerprints of course -
Muahaha actually i'm wrong again!
EEEEExxxxxpresss.
-
Clears that up.
-
Haha, i'm going to stalk this model even if i don't have the moneys to get one haha,
It packs alot for such a machine, but at the end of the day, my 4850 will perform admirably, as well as the q9000, maybe i could cosmetically alter my machine though haha.
-
I could let you borrow my sledgehammer
-
Haha, well i have a faulty vga port, and they replaced ram with slightly slower (but more reliable) stuff,
So i could actually try two more times on the warrenty (If i have any left) as its already been in once! haha. -
-
While it's no 5870 HD, it's still pretty darn good if you ask me.
Aren't the MXM slots the same? You can always put one in yourself.. lol -
Yeah don't think it didn't cross my mind that RJTech is selling MR HD5870s for the Clevo....but laptops aren't desktops and there's more of a chance it won't work than it will.
Phinagle whispers MSI: WTB GX660 w/HD5870 or better. PST. -
Should be cheaper than a 285M GTX.Right?
I think RJTech had them for $490.00.
I nearly sh*t my pants when I seen what the 9800M GTX when for. -
Nope no idea really but RJTech sells the GTX285M individually for $490 and charges the same for that card or the MR HD5870 in their custom Clevo configs so maybe they'll cost the same.
On the other hand Xotic PC has the MR HD5870 as an option for their Clevos now as well and they actually charge $55 less than the GTX285M.
So who knows for sure. Honestly it's not worth it for me to even make the attempt. The cards are specifically made for Clevos and there's no guarantee that the GT660's heatsink or BIOS will support it. -
Personally a 285 is fine for this, aslong as temps are tollerable, its nvidias highest end (Although not quite the 5870/5750 desktop mixup) but you most likely can stick a 5870 in their unless there is something that prevents that (Alienware m15x had some form of prevention for switching to ATI.)
-
Nvidias mobile flagship is awesome but no DX11.
Not sure how important that is to me since games still look pretty amazing with DX10.
Only questions for me now are I wonder what the exact dimensions are and how much it would weigh.
I really hope MSI doesn't drag there @ss releasing this laptop like the have done with some models in the past. -
Haha, letem drag, they wan't us to wait! hear its super 1000w sound system
Lmao, if DX11 takes off, then the laptop will be stupid haha. -
great hardware, but not a fan of the design at all. it's like asus but cheesier.
-
Every laptop is not for everyone
-
It's petty to hate a notebook just because it looks like some other notebook.....unless that other notebook is the Tosh Qosmio X305.
-
I would like an sli x305 personally (unless there completely faulty lol)
I like there x series only,
But personally, nothing will take away my love for older sony laptops, apserlute beaut beasts, planning on restoring myself.
As for MSI, its part of my life now haha, i use the machine for everything, work, image and video manipulation, movies, haven't been gaming lately but will soon return to that field.
My MSI has recieved the most torture out of all my computers, yet it functions exactly like day 1, they have made me very happy. -
anyone know what the screen resolution on this is going to be?
