See, now thats why i'm loyal to the MSI brand,
When they release kick butt products like this!
Very good post,
+ Rep
Edit: Is that thing glowing? (By god it is)
Also i wan't the sound company they were working with,
And i want to see some internals.

Nice looking redesign but they got rid of the best feature of the old chassis...the brushed aluminum...and kept the worst...the red. I wonder if it's 16:9.
Overall though I do like it. 2 HDDs bays and 3 RAM slots are great and if they can make a 15.4" (or 15.6") chassis that can cool an overclocked GTX280 I'll be very impressed. MSI would still need a GX760 version with a HD5870 though before I'd buy one. -
Minus the light show, that's a pretty slick looking notebook.
-
My guess would be June.
The GTX285 would definitely out perform a GDDR3 Mob HD5850 but it might not completely outperform a GDDR5 version. -
So what do you think of the back of the machine?
Looks like maybe power, network, VGA, HDMI and Display Port...and seems like there's grills for two fans, though one of them is almost completely blocked out.
What's not shown on the back is also pretty interesting....there's no battery pack sticking out. -
Looking forward to seeing some proper images of this thing anyway, fingers crossed it will be a cool notebook, and good value. -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
The design makes me immediately think of Toshiba's Qosmio.
-
That behind shot makes it look pretty slim. The GX740 is already down to 1.38", so I wonder what the dimensions on this are.
-
I'd likely turn the LEDs off....unless they can turn colors other than red. -
I'd keep the leds, light up my room red and window theme red haha,
USB 3 support, dual bays, GTX 285 which is apparently an OC gtx 280 but has immense driver support and hardware utilisation to bring it up to the performance of the reviewed GX640's GDDR5 5850,
Two fans, definately knew they would do this, man that machine is beaut, if i had any money i'd jump on it, but my 6555 will last a while haha,
12 gigs of ram, they are rounding the machine off to nicely, although its got a much more aggressive flare for gaming, its still MSI,
Apparently more news from MSI to be released next week! -
-
Doesn't look like two fans since that looks like the ODD right behind the closed off vent.
I'm very disappointed MSI didn't use this chassis for the GX740. -
That could be so, but MSI tend to favour nice long spaced heat pipes (Although with that much hardware inside it'd be hard) Maybe one of the components is sat near that vent, or they have a much higher RPM fan in there (Which i wouldn't be suprised, the current 1722 fan is mad in my oppinion.)
-
Top and bottom screen bezels look a little big too. -
Nice! I'm typing this on a GX600 which was a disaster at first, but ever since they replaced the Motherboard its been rock solid (18 months everyday use). I'll buy another MSI in a heartbeat.
Oh yeah... I would have preferred DX11 Graphics. -
I for one am glad that they didn't use this chassis for the gx740, the brushed aluminum is icing on the cake for me.
Other then that, this is good. I'm interested in pricing. -
Somewhat a surprising release for the typically modest MSI, the GX740 is impressive enough
It does have a 2nd HDD bay though, uses LED screen tech, and probably sports a dual fan system if this is their flagship. Kind of silly they didn't say what size screen it has. Best guess is 17.3", but it could be 18.4". -
No way is that an 18.4"....there would be a lot more space to the left and right of the keyboard like on the Clevo M98. MSI will likely release a 17.3" model down the line but the biggest this model will be is 16".
I don't know about an LED screen either. If you mean the "LED light performing display technology", that sounded to me more like an AlienFX-type feature for the red lights.
Edit: Then again I wonder if those pictures are of the same system...or if they're even of the real machine. The keys look different and closer to the edge of the notebook on the image from the back than they do in the overhead image. I still say 15-16" though based on model number. -
It looks fancier than other gaming lappy series of MSI. The design is similar to Alienware's. The heat was blew out @ the rear of the lappy, so your hand won't be warmed up. I hope the build quality is better than older series.

Wow! Perfect!
Waiting for GT770I feel that soon there will be one.
-
^
SLi solution with 285s? I"m guessing, that's the logical next step up anyways.
Unless they release xfire-ed 5870s which would be even better haha.
unfortunately a laptop like that would probably be out of my budget range, and probably too bulky for my tastes -
dang. i get all excited about the GX640 and the this gets announced... guess i need to decide soon, school is coming up. don't really need this gpu though, all i'll be playing is SC2...
-
very nice might be time to upgrade the gx620
-
I'm so glad I waited before dropping nearly $1700 on a Sager 8690. I can't wait to find out more about this one.
-
Anyone know the size of the screen yet?
-
press release sometime next week. no screen size yet i don't think...
-
Why not use HD5870?
Edit: It looks like the G71 from the light pattern. -
Judging by the model number, it has to be a 15" or 16" screen model. All of the GT6xx and GX6xx notebooks followed this pattern.
-
Did i mention i will shake anyones hand who goes and chucks the 285 for a 5870, because it'l most likely work
.

fnatics.com is reporting that the GT660 will be MSI's 120hz 3D gaming rig.....which explains why they went with the GTX285m.
Can't link the article right now but they've also got a couple of new pics to check out. -

Was posting from my cell so couldn't offer up a link at the time. Here ya go:

Looks better with the LEDs off. -
Im looking forward to some bigger pictures, but I have to say it looks a LOT better in the flesh. Just seems to have a 'quality' sort of look to it, whereas in the original pics it looked a little cheap and garish.
-
Yeah the original pics you posted had the photo-shopped glow effect on the red LEDs that made it look fake and cheap.
-
Hmm that much looks better indeed Phin, although i think the LEDS will actually look much nicer real time.
-
Hello just some new Infos from Germany
the Price will be 1500-1999euro here
-
Hey freak, welcome!
Quite a pricy start from MSI, so the question will be, is it worth it?
Does the GPU perform?, does the 3d work? is the cooling system admirable? and is the sound actually better then multimedia grade speakers?
We turn to the stig....for answers,
Any links to German sites of sale Freak?
Thanks man! -

16+, HD, HD+...screen size and resolutions? 16" 1366x768(HD), 1600x900(HD+)? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
very nice notebook.
-
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now and assume those were bad angles to take photos from, but the case kind of looks like cheapish plastic...
-
I like the 3 ram slots and most everything else, but I don't like the plastic casing/random lights.
Looking forward to more MSI releases though
edit
looks much better from new pics, though i still prefer msi's older gaming chassis'
pics from cebit

seems..glossy to say the least? -
It'l be a glossy casing, but MSI will still most likely have their solid inside i keep butchering,,
This machine seems fantastic, i'm really looking forward to the release but i'm dreading price (Although the GT725 and 627 were released really nicely priced.)
Sounds like the speakers will do a great job too for a notebook! (3" sub) haha. j/k
Price definately been confirmed to be under 2000 EU.
Theres a working fermi card at CBIT, more today
Dual DVI and Mini hdmi port on back,
AMD have a 6 core phenom coming up
MSI Lightening 5870 seems on steroids with overclockability, the replacement parts seem pretty awesome.
Not much else! -
-
Lol NO!
Its the 660 haha.
Hope they roll out the 740 during the day though, -
GT740 is the one to the right of the sign...you can see a bit of the old chassis in the bottom right corner of the pic.
-
Aha, so it is!
Well why aint everyone touching it.
