Hi, I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop around $1700-$1800 and I have finally came upon these two models (these guys fall inside my budget range).
I am not much into looks of the machines, but more into the durability and performance. Frankly, I have been locked on the ASUS ROG for quite some time but too many rumours about this model running hot made me re-think my decision. That's why i am considering the MSI one, with its turbo boost and better cooling pipes (or so i have been told).
- MSI GT62VR 7RE DOMINATOR PRO-239 w/ GTX 1070
- ASUS ROG Strix GL502VS-DS71 w/ GTX 1070
I will be playing ALL the AAA titles with decent settings at my machine.
Before asking my queries, I should say that I am buying these HIDEvolution (good reputation, according to a friend) and the rep has confidently told me that they properly test these gaming machines with the stress test softwares, etc before shipping them out (so that should eliminate the )
What i want to ask is mostly about cooling system and build
These are all the questions i could come up, if you guys have more on your mind that you can offer, please do so it can help my decision.
- Is MSI GT62VR REALLY worth it with its "fat" build? (again, not crazy about looks)
- Does its cooling system has that much efficiency and long life to make it superior over the ASUS GL502VS?
- On amazon, i have heard a ton of user reviews about the MSI laptops showing problems after first 2-3 months of usage, like its some coin toss 50-50 kinda thing, that if you get a good product it will last years or if you had a bad luck then you would be claiming warranty in less than a year. (I have seen less behaviour of this kind in ASUS machines, even though they do run uncomfortably hot sometimes)
- In a review video on youtube, i saw an integrated/dedicated graphics switch on the MSI GT62VR, whats this? and how does it works? And is it susceptible to faults? (I read two complaints on reddit about people saying their MSI isn't using dedicated GPU for gaming and isn't switching over whatever they do)
PS: Build-wise AW is awesome, but its wayyyy over-priced so a big NO on that. (someone here on NBR suggested AW so i thought i should address that too)

The GT62 easily - the VS models have thermal issues.

As for issues down the road - it's caused by MSI's horrible bloatware - do a clean install and you'll be more or less fine. The default MSI OS is H O R R I B L Y cluttered with random garbage.

It's really best to do a clean install. Their default OS also has a different settings and whatnot.
MSI GT62VR OR ASUS GL502? (Same price & specs)
