Hi ! new to the forum.

Do anyone know about the m.2 socket in the MSI GT62VR with a 1070. It supports both SATA and PCIe NVMe interface? or just only sata ? or PCIe NVMe?. do that mean that i can order an a laptop with a SATA M.2 and later i can upgrade on my own with an PCIe NVMe M.2?

If that so, do it will require a BIOS upgrade or something like that?

Yes, the GT62VR it has a combo M.2 port which supports both NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 and SATA SSD and there is no need for the BIOS update.

Looking at getting one of these notebooks. They have em on sale at Microcenter right now for $1400. The thing is that it of course only comes with a basic SATA M.2 256GB drive.

I was looking at the 512GB 950 pro which is 2500/1200.
I was also comparing it against the 512GB 960 Pro which is 3500/2200.

Question is this. We know the socket is the same and we know it's all PCIe, Gen. 3, x4

Per MSI with NVME it can go up to 2200MB read times... That's LESS than the 950 Pro can do...

Would it be a waste to put a $330 512GB 960 Pro in there? Would it even run at those crazy high end 3500/2200 speeds?

    Thanks for your time!

P.S, I'm a regular on the Toughbook side of things as I work with them for a living. I am looking for an ULTRA fast mobile workstation and this appears to be my best bet. Panasonic can't come close as it's a totally different market lol.

Theoretically, the max speed on PCIe Gen 3 x4 can go up to 3940MB/s so everyone's curious on what real life performance is, especially on these MSI notebooks.

Well I'll buy one then I think! :) Seems to be the same price from Samsung directly VS Newegg...

Distribution (Ingram Micro) has it for $306.50 but god knows when THAT will be in lol. At least Samsung says it'll ship on 11/21

If I can get a deal on this laptop (Microcenter of course is winning now), I'll snap up this SSD as well!!!

I live about 1 hour from MS though so I'm seeing if an eBay vendor (2 different vendors actually) will match their price so I can save 2 hours of travel time :)

    Over and out for now!

Went a different route here!! Going to build a legit little, yet powerful workstation instead as it was $401.62 cheaper. Build sheet is attached from Newegg. I am getting the 960 PRO 512GB NVMe too though!

The rare few times I travel I'll just use my more than adequate Toughbook laptop.

    Over and out!
