    o_O nice find nacr

GTS 160M? Is that on par with the m9600 gt just a bit better? Or is this meant to be a 9800m gs but on smaller die?

I dont know much about the recent release of the 1** serie cards.

So will the chassis be an improvement over the GT627? Keyboard flex, touchpad wear, etc?

Ok I was just wondering since what RKC has up looks completely different from the 627, but that could be just a placeholder image.

And i suppose 1651 barebones owners won't be able to get their hands on the parts... Sigh...

The one we have up is a barebone model (MS-1651) and not the gaming series pre-configured model. The barebone is ID2 (black brushed metal), the gaming series chassis are ID3 (red and black).

OK cool. Now the question is whether Microsoft will be doing the free Windows 7 upgrade for Vista purchases in July (or something like that?).

The free upgrade program starts June 28... whether MSI will participate is the question.

Anyone know if the GT627s will be coming down in price when the GT628 comes out? cuz looking at the link posted by nacr05, one of the new ones that would have a slightly better CPU, and of course the new GPU, but otherwise the same would cost only about $100 more that the GT627-218...

Usually when the chassis is initially released parts are difficult to get. I'm sure at a later date (if they are compatible with; heatsink, mainboard) we should be able to get them.

Not sure if all or some of the MSI models will be included in the Win 7 upgrade. There is info on the MSI global site, but the USA upgrade info is not available so far. It should be on msimobile.com next week.

Is there any plans for alternate graphics options for this model? I'd kill for a 250 or other more energy efficient GPU.

    Edit. Didn't see processor options.

    Not really...

9800GS is almost equal to 160m...
DDR3 is the same as DDR2 because of the higher latency.
    Case is the same...
GT628 has native quad support, there is a recent bios update for the gt627 that allows quads...

For me its the same but with a higher price...

Granted, this is with a x9100, but that is an impressive score. Beats my 4850 with an overclocked P8600.

    I mean, how did they add 1500 3dmarks with a die-shrink and the same clocks? A 9800m GTS gets 9300 with a T9600.

Good question, maybe RobM can let us in on something we don't know about. Nevertheless, it looks impressive to me; a GT627 owner could care less, but that score almost doubles what I got with the 9600M GT and a X9100.

3DMark06 is MASSIVELY CPU dependant for higher scores, which is why the X9100 powered laptop wins - tis a quad vs a dual, and thats what 3D06 prefers, hands down. Stick the X9100 with the 4850 and the 4850 machine would equalise the scores, however it's been 'held back' artificially by being paired with a dual core.

3DMark Vantage Performance standard settings would give a much more representative score [with Nvidia card physx disabled] for modern games [I believe it uses elements of DX10 for example].

Reason I mention this is that 3dmark 06 score for the GTX260/4850 is virtually identical on notebookcheck, yet if you look at the Vantage and other tests [including Crysis which favours GPU grunt, and NVcentric at that], the 4850 pulls ahead by a decent margin.

The X9100 is a dual core CPU but I still agree with your point.

Becareful, I'm starting to think saying the 4850 is as fast or faster then the GTX 260M is heresy. :) It seems like most people think the GTX 260M is faster. From what I've seen the 4850 looks like quite a contender.

Technically the frosty computers one isn't the barebones so it's only a preorder for the gaming series version. Also AVADirect has the barebones but their site seems to be down at the moment.
