    Hello everyone,

I recently received my MSI GT627-218 laptop. After fixing the keyboard flex, I love it!

I plan on taking care of it, but have never owned a laptop that has a brushed aluminum finish. I will be bringing the laptop to campus with me on a daily basis in a Targus 17" XL backpack, but am somewhat afraid that sliding the laptop in and out of the protective sleeve in the backpack will scratch the finish. Has anyone here had problems with this unit scratching (or a similar laptop with a brushed aluminum finish)? I've read that the finish is durable, but this is can be a relative term.

The bottom line is I don't want to put in a huge scratch across the black finish on the lid as it would be quite noticeable.

I've been contemplating getting a thin sleeve to place the laptop inside a backpack. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

EDIT: I just realized that I misspelled aluminum in the title. Doh!

yeah be careful with it because a scratch will show silver under the black. im going to add some clear 3m brand covering over mine. while it will hide the beauty of the brushed look it will also keep it from scratching

The best way to avoid a scratch when putting a laptop in a backpack is to get a sleeve for it. You could also wrap it in a soft cloth bag as well, and then place it in your backpack.

Ive been using it constantly everyday for school, and so far no scratches. I think if you're just careful with it, you'll be ok. I put books and notebooks in there, and its holding up great.

Mind you, im not tossing my backpack around either, i make sure to never drop it. I just gently lay it down wherever im at.

I've had mine for about half a year now, and never had problem with the aluminum parts being marred or scratched. No sleeves either, I just jam it into a backpack.
