Hey all. I was wondering, does the MSI GT627 come with windows vista x32? From what I have found online it does... However, doesn't x32 limits its memory at "4gb" which in turn means about 2.5-3.0? Do people who get this laptop generally switch to x64 to utilize all the memory or are most people just sticking with the x32? I vary well could be wrong with the x32 limits but from what I have heard from both he web and friends is that that is the actual limit. Thanks for the help!!

32-bit OS reads the full 4GB but other processes need to be addressed so that takes away from the total amount (anywhere from 0.5-1GB normally). This means the usable amount of memory you will be able to access is somewhere btw 3-3.5GB normally. Personally, it doesn't really matter since most people don't need more than 3GB. If you can get all the drivers and programs that you use in 64-bit, then go ahead and upgrade since 64-bit is generally more stable than 32-bit but if you are a home consumer/gamer, then it's not necessary.

As said above, rare are the users whch will need/use more than 3Gb of RAM. 64bit is more stable and runs smoother which would be the main reason I'd get it, not for RAM(although for some odd reason people seem to like this reason more than anything).

Mind you, you have to find a 64bit installation disc since your product key will still work for the installation.

To say the average consumer wouldn't use 4GB of ram is wrong in my opinion. If we were talking about running Windows XP I might agree with you. However, any modern OS will use excess memory as fast cache enabling programs to be preloaded into memory. The end result is applications launch quicker and are more responsive.

There's a reason I put the word "need" first. It's because although the RAM is being addressed, you don't NEED it to run your programs smoothly, it's just icing on the cake fr a performance boost.

I think it depends on many factors a guy like me needs 4 gigs of ram i keep like 40 pages tabbed on Google Chrome and Firefox while running Steam. That actually uses a lot of memory i think it depends most consumer on vista probably wont need more then 3.
