Hello everyone, as per KonstantinDK request, here's a short video of the Keyboard Flex Fix I've made for anyone interested.
Please note that English is not my primary language, so excuse any language mistakes on the video ok?![]()
The procedure took no more than 10 minutes and it's really easy to do.
The only tools you'll need are:
- 1 Phillips scredriver (x)
- Credit Card or similar object (to avoid damaging the laptop)
- About 1 ft of double sided tape
- Scissors or knife to cut the tape into smaller strips
- A bit of patience
Disclaimer: I'll take no responsibility if you end up damaging your Notebook, the procedure is very easy to do but things can go wrong if you are not careful, so don't rush it... Take your time.![]()
Enjoy the video HERE
Here's some photos of the procedure:

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
+rep for the work it probably took some guts to do that
-
also if you flip over the notebook and remove the battery there are 3 small plastic tabs right above it. you can just unsnap those and push it up a bit and the part above the keyboard comes right off if you dont want to pry on the keys with the card..
-
Thanks a lot.

awesome rayanmx! ty

I just got my GT627 yesterday and after using it for a bit I see why people would get annoyed by the keyboard flex. I think I'm going to do this fix just so it feels a bit sturdier.
Thanks a lot for the guide! -

i finished! muchhh better but i didn't follow exactly all the way the stickers were put but it feels better now, but i think mine KIND of sticks up more now, I don't know if it will push up against the screen when i close it.
anyone's input on this, that's did the fix? -
Um, why exactly u supposed to use double sided tape, not one sided? If you don't peel of the other side?
-
@vinceboiii, that could be a problem, if the keys touch the screen eventually will permanently mark the LCD, so don't forget to use the spongy protective sheet. That's exactly the reason I decided to put the tapes IN the grooves.
Cheers!

Thanks so much for the video, I ended up doing the flex fix yesterday. Without the video I was having trouble getting the touch bar off. The keyboard is so much more solid now.
-
THIS is what you do. send about 100 emails complaining about the problem and it's bound to get fixed on later models
-
Glad the video it's helping others...
@jonhapimp, yeah you got that right... But it's a bit too late for us who already got it -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
MSI will probably do something about this..........(me thinks)
The question Johna is can we gget enough people to send that many. -
Hey guys. Great video and guide. I was wondering... How thick is the double sided tape? Im not to familiar with it. On the pics it looks like its foamy? So ya sorry for the lame question but ya XD want to do it right...
-
Excellent write-up!
This fixed most of my keyboard flex issues. No more than three days of ownership. -
Thanks for the wonderful write up, I just did it to my ms-1651 and it fixed all the flex issues. I used industrial double stick tape from home depot if it helps anyone, its gray with a red backing, it was thinner then any I could find at the craft store or wal-mart and the keyboard has zero bulges. Thanks again.
-
Can you name what brand it is? The 3m double sided seems so fat. But I think there's a thinner one. Did you just use the one side? And did not peel the other side so the keyboard don't stick to it?
-
I can't remember the brand as I bought it a couple of years ago and its been sitting in my toolbox. Yeah I just stuck down the sticky side and left the red backing on so that way the keyboard could be removed if I ever wanted to. The ones I found at the craft store where about twice as thick, I would say the one I used is about 1mm thick. Just make sure to stick it in the metal grooves so that it is flat as possible and it worked out great.
-
the grey with red backing is normally 3m also but its the automotive style you can find it at autozone or similar
-
-
what i did is similar but i did it a bit different. i applied the tape to the underside of the keyboard after carefully marking out where i wanted it this way its not attached directly to the notebook. then i applied a few small pieces of scotch tape the clear kind to the metal on the chassis. then i removed a few small spots of tape only very very small squares of just the red backing. then that stuck to the scotch tape. i then tried to remove it and it takes up the scotch tape and its is a bit harder to remove but still comes off without issues

i just notice imprints of the keyboard on my screen, but its very light i don't close my laptop most of the time only when i take it to school. anyway for me to prevent this? should i use that cloth sheet that sat on top of the keys when you first open the laptop?
-
If you see imprints, definitely use it. -
HINT: Read the text on the protective sponge, it clearly states one should use it.
"NOTICE: To avoid any damage or scrape that may occur to the LCD, please make sure to put this sponge on the keyboard before closing your notebook!"
Remember, if you fixed your keyboard with any of the many techniques already mentioned, you have to take further actions to take care of the screen because chances are the keyboard bulged outwards, thus the gap between the LCD and Keyboard could be reduced.
Cheers!

^^ alright fashooo ...now i gotta find it.
-
hmm... does this ruin you warranty? I fixed my keyboard flex but i think i messed up my right speaker because it has static now, but i'm not sure if this was before i opened it up. Anyone know if it voids the warranty?
-
There's no way of telling you removed the keyboard, unless you weren't careful enough and left evidence of your 'work'
There's no warranty void sticker in there.
I find it hard to see how you could have damaged the speaker for it to cause static noise....
@vinceboiii, If you don't find it, make one yourself... Purchase some thin flannel or similar soft and thin fabric. Worst case, use a piece of kitchen tissue...
Cheers!

Oh, god. Finally finished. I think I had enough adrenalin for 3 days.
One of these days I'll become brave enough to finally do undervolting. -
This thread and video was created because you requested it!!! LOL
Oh, and how's the Blueray/DVD tray for you this time?
Cheers!
RayanMX -
It's fine.
I really like to postpone things -
-
Judging by the posted picture,
anyone interested should think about using tennis grip wrap,
a lot of different thickness and not too expensive. -
I don't know much about computers so I might be far off, but isn't that a manufacturing problem?
aren't manufacturing problems covered by the warranty?
i could be wrong ... i probably am wrong ... but is the flex hard to get used to? because I'm not one for tearing up new laptops
