my nb have a problem. It started last week. I was about to format my drive c, but before doing the procedure I went to bios settings and use the keyboard. The "esc" button wont function unless I use an external keyboard which I did. After re-enterring in bios, it seems that the menu screen "save the current settings yes or no" message appears so many times as if there's something stuck up (always pops out) on the steel series keyboard...

Even when using an external Keyboard I can't do anything about it.. So I used Gold/Memtest to see if memory have faulty address. It was running fine for 5 minutes then afterwards the nb shuts down or restarts.. To my curiosity, I replaced the power grid with the battery but even when I put the battery, the problem persist....What is happening with my NB?

I also cleaned my gpu/cpu heatsink and pasted with ic diamond so there's no heat issue in it still the problem is there ... Any technical feedback could be of great help... thanks guru's

In my personal experience, random shutdowns that are not thermal related are caused by either a faulty motherboard or a faulty CPU - more often, the CPU is the problem. Sometimes when it executes particular commands, it will trip something and force a cold shutdown.

you might want to check if any keys on the keyboard was stuck causing repeated key stroke.

I looked at it and dont see anything stuck on the keyboard.. Since the day i bought my laptop, most of the time i use external keyboard...

    cpu is 3610qm oem

although I have an unlock bios that I use to test fsb set to 105 only though with matching 240 watts dell adapter and upgraded the gpu to gtx680m... But still the cpu is multiplier lock.. My nb is in the 2 year international warranty period though which I bought from Singapore. Unfortunately where I am living at right now (msi-philippines) they dont accept international warranty which is not good.

I dont know if i will let them look at it cos this is hardware problem. Sometimes letting them diagnose your laptop for a couple of days makes me worried too. They might replace/interchange the good parts with the lemon ones as this might escalate the problem with my nb :(

    Please help thanks

To rule out that your laptop keyboard is not causing issues, try this Keyboard Tester and see if any keys are causing issues. If the key highlights and you didn't press it...you have an issue.
Or disconnect your laptop keyboard temporarily and use your external keyboard.
Your laptop keyboard may be causing memtest to abort and restart your computer.

    @CpxAzn

Found the culprit to my problem.. It's the faulty "esc" button keyboard thats causing the trouble to my nb. Had it double check by MSI tech people. They said the keyboard is grounded, causing the nb to operate in an abnormal state-restart while installing fresh windows, and halting the gpu-mxm card undetected in windows.

The keyboard is replaced by a new one and it's okay now. I am relieved that the problem is gone and playing in ultra max settings in some dx11 games. I love my NB with its raw power gpu. Cheers

Sure, it will make every bit of difference due to better hardware used.

It's a relatively small increase, you can tweak your current 680M to get pretty similar speeds anyway, I would say not worth the investment. Just be aware you need a specific bios to support the 780M (the P series of files).

    @ Meaker

You referring to an unlock bios right?

No it does not have to be unlocked, it can be the stock or the unlocked versions of the .10p (AHCI as a default settings) or .30p (RAID as a default setting) bios.
