As title shows, i am wondering if upgrading to the 7970 GPU would be possible. If so, what bios/heatsink modifications should i do?

No, AMD cards are not compatible.

The only unit I am aware of that supports AMD is the GX60. MSI almost exclusively sticks with NVidia and Intel chips.

I think their GX series are AMD, and GT have been Nvidia graphics cards usually. But some are interchangeable, like mine.

The mainboard made for nVidia Optimus enabled are different. It won't work with AMD's Enduro technology, therefore, it can't switch to AMD GPU:

Lol, looks so promising, device manager detects it but drivers dislike the card even with msi vbios i believe? Did anyone compare the gx60 bios coding and gt60 coding just to extract the script for enduro? I thought the hardware design for enduro and optimus is the same but different bios coding section

The gx60 uses an amd chipset and cpu so good luck comparing anything to the intel one.

You just get a black screen even with an msi card.

The GT70 0NE-452US should have come with a 680M by the way.

The GX versions are AMD GPUs equipped. GX740, GX640, GX660 etc etc and now GX60/70

Yeah it would be nice to see a intel + AMD GPU setup from them for more choice but they may not want to validate it or confuse their lineup.
