This is more of a question out of curiosity, as I've seen people with other laptops with 4th or most cases 1st gen Intel CPUs upgrading to newer or more powerful cards and CPUs.

Has anyone performed any upgrades to their GT640 or GX640? I had this intention of swapping out my GTS 250m for a workstation GPU (looking at AMD/ATI for this) so I have a capable Sony Vegas Pro 15 machine.

I might be mistaken but I think you can go for a 920/940XM and something like a AMD HD 8970M, which would fulfill your needs. But it needs disabled enduro I think.

My only fear for something as modern and high-end as the 8970M is the heat, considering the laptop isn't big. It's something worth noting though.

Did some digging. It doesn't support something like a HD 8970M, Only half sized MXM cards.

EDIT: Nvm looked at something wrong.

Yeah the cooling is very limited. Idk. Single heatpipe and some copper really seems meager.

Since I discovered the GTS 250m that's in there is a Type-A, I've also read that there are AMD Firepro M4000s that use Type-As too so that could work. But I can't until someone who has done so in the past confirms this.
