Hi :) First post on this forum and hope I can get your input on my 'little' dilemma. I've been using a MBP 17, 2011 which is currently way outdated and while it is sill decent for photo editing it is useless for Video.

I am mostly on a move and so am only interested in a 17 inch laptop, apple sucks and doesn't make one anymore so I am left only with a number of PC base laptops.

A 4k display is a must as it will make my photo/video editing much easier and so I am considering the MSI GS73 8RF. ( https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS73-Stealth-8RF.html)

Here are couple of the questions:
    1. How is the 4k display on it, how is the color accuracy and what is the over all display quality? BTW is it a real 4k or is it pentile display that some people are complaining about?

    2. I am currently in Vietnam, this model is not available here, nor have I been able to find it anywhere else in Asia so looks like I'll be getting it from the US - kind of stupid given that they make em here... If anyone is aware of any stores in Asia that would have em in stock please let me know.

    3. Is there anything negative about the 4k version of the laptop that you think I need to consider? I'd love to get to see one before I buy it, but from the looks of it that will not happen so I kind of just have to go with it... Given that I am planning on upgrading it to 32GB Ram and 2 SSD drives it wont' be cheap so want to make sure I am not making a mistake.

    4. Are there any other 17 inch 4k laptops I should consider? (I like the fact that the GS73 is really small/light which makes travel much easier.

    Thanks!

For Photo editing, it seems like it will be a good pick, the 4K displays they put in the GS series are pretty good. Since it's primarily for mobility/photography I'd actually say this is about the best one. Most other things share similar form factors don't have the screen if memory serves.

You would definitely go with a quality monitor, but please note that some users don't really like this 4K panel and some don't mind it at all.

    2. The GS73 8RF is brand spanking new so you will have to wait a bit for availability to cascade down. I just saw some of the first availability in the UK popping up and there is no review on Youtube from the usual suspects (e.g. Dave2D, Linus, etc.).

As for Vietnam, you will have to wait a while. Even the MSI showrooms only have the GS65 8RE (and not the GTX1070 8RF). Where are you based in Vietnam? I think all their showrooms are in HCMC. An alternative is grey market which usually has stuff before the official stores / distributors. Not something I would entertain but my mates were fine with it.

    4. For the weight, nothing. It's lighter than some 15-inche variants like the Asus GM501, which is already supposed to be light.
