    Hey guys,

I just got a MSI g70 stealth laptop for my birthday.

Since I managed to save some money, i was planning on making some upgrades to this machine.
The main one being upgrade the 2x8gb sticks to 2x16gb ones. Despite the limitations listed in the MSI website, i've read that it is possible to upgrade to 32 gb.

Have you guys done this in one of your machines? If so, which memory brand would you recommend?

    Thanks!!

Which GS70 did you get? The only ones that will support 16GB sticks would be the Skylake version (006).

The 16GB sticks aren't really available to consumers as of yet, the model for what we use is Samsung M471A2K43BB1-CPB. As Skylake becomes more the norm over the next year we should see more modules available.

It should say on the side of the box, probably says something like GS70 6QE (003US) if it is DDR3 memory it is the haswell or broadwell variant so the 16GB dimms would not work. It needs to be DDR4 for those to work properly.

Download CPU-Z, it will give you all the CPU/Chipset/memory information.

Also, if you look in your System info or device manager, and it shows you have a processor that starts with i7 4xxx or i7 5xxx, then it would use DDR3. It would need to be i7 6700 for it to use DDR4, and be able to upgrade to 32gb. DDR3 maxes at 16gb in previous models.

Look on the back side of your unit to find the serial number, this is the most accurate way to figure out what you have.
You can post the front part of your SN and censor the last 10-digit of numbers.

Also about the RAM... Does the Skylake variant (006) really support DDR4 2400 (besides the regular 2133), did anybody tried some fast DDR4 on it? Cause, you see, DDR4 is quite new to the mobile landscape and I couldn't find any decent info on the matter. Intel only says 2133 on that processor and chipset (i7-6700HQ and HM170e), I wonder if MSI did something (at least to the BIOS) to make it benefit from some faster DDR4.
