What's the normal range for idle and browsing? For CPU, which is the i7 4720HQ @2.6 Ghz, no overclock whatsoever.
I get around 50-60C when just using chrome and having my email run, is it high?
Only had the computer for a couple of weeks

It seems my cores are running at full and at around 800 Mhz with half a second intervals...
One moment its max and half a second later it goes all the way down, then up, then perhaps in the middle, it changes every half a second. Is this normal?

Also its quite hard to open the chassis on the back so cleaning/repasting etc. are almost impossible. Its also quite thin, the laptop. What can i do (if this isnt normal)?

    Thanks

What power setting are you on? Have you checked task manager to see if something keeps using some CPU?

I'm running on balanced power setting, processor state is around 10% although it sometimes spikes up to 25-30% for a short period of time through some microsoft downloader or something that i can't find now. By your answer i guess that the temps are at least somewhat unusual? It also uses about 30% memory if that has anything to say (16GB total RAM)

The system is tuned for noise rather than temperature. The spikes in usage are a little more odd.

Well heres a picture at least. Don't know if you can spot any anomalies.
I'll try to send a video of the fluctations when i get home. Thanks

It's more the dynamics over time of the processes running and which is using what that would give the clues but with several programs open i'm in the 2-4% range on my system. Check to see if your antivirus is being hungry.

I understand that these images perhaps doesn't give you any implications, but I had to leave and just took a few screenshots :)

What would you like to see? I'll post it when I get home.

    Thanks for taking your time

Maybe a few screenshots over time of your CPU usage in the processes tab (ordered by current CPU usage highest first).

Alright, here I have some screenshots.

First picture is 2 minutes after boot. When I opened the MSI Dragon Gaming center, it registered 40 Degrees celsius, but quickly rose to 50 when i opened chrome.
Second picture is about 10 minutes after boot. Temps fluctuate in the mid 50s. Also, why does the Dragon gaming center think that i am plugged into mains power, thus enabling shift? Also it seems clock fluctation is limited to around 1700 Mhz when unplugged, and goes all the way to 2.5 something GHZ when plugged into mains power. Video shows fluctation: https://vid.me/CLvX and third image shows state 30 minutes after boot.
Third image and video is when plugged in.

Did another reboot, this time i chose restart in stead of shut down so the system would shutdown entirely instead of hybrid-shutdown.

These were the temps i was getting immedeately after it came back to my desktop.

Looks like you have lots of programs using small amount of resources that add up.

Does it warrant the fluctation of the clock speed and temperature then?

Yes as the usage spikes up and down so does the demand on the CPU, you can try setting to battery saver to help keep it down.

Well, the cpu percentage spikes happen perhaps once a minute or every two minutes while the cpu core clock spikes happen twice in a second..

Even in the power saver plan?

Yes, it does still fluctuate although the clock seems to be capped to a lower clock obviously. Seems to fluctuate a bit less frequently, but still it fluctuates heavily in balanced and high performance mode.
