Hey!
I was browsing the GS70 topic some hours ago wondering when the GS70 is coming out and GentechPC already had it in preorder!
It seems the first model to come is a GS70 2OD-001 US, the info page is here
The configurator here Gaming Laptops - GenTech PC - Gaming Notebooks - Custom Laptops - Custom Notebooks - Customize System shows it will come with a 128GB SSD and 750GBHDD. While I was harsh with the Razer blade it was mainly because of the insane cost. This time it seems MSI is fighting back with an affordable, great looking competitor here.
The GS70 should be a nice gaming laptop for those that want sleek looks and portability![]()

This is as thinly veiled as forum spam can get.
Why not purchase at Newegg, where the GS70 models have been available since release day?
Edit: You're quite vocal about your support of GentechPC:

(That's just on these forums. You're not shy about your support wherever you go on the Internet it seems) -
For instance, if you dont want to super raid you can save a hundred bucks, get the cpu and gpu repasted and use windows 7, unlike the newegg one. If it was the exact same thing as the one on newegg then I would say its just a fanboy but having a company like that offer it with that many options (something newegg doesnt do) is post worthy in my eyes! -
1536GB (512GB X3 Super RAID) Samsung PM841 mSATA SSD SATA III 6 Gb/s [-$8575.00]
Awesome. -
What happens if you try checking out with that

I am vocal about DIY problem solving, resellers not only gentech (but yes they are my favourite so far) and mostly helping out the community. I rarely post topics and i mostly post around. The vast majority of my posts are to help out users but i only make topic of my personal reviews and products i am interested in
One thing is that i do prefer actual resellers over certain sites or stores. I am vocal about it and not only about gentech but i do recommend resellers here than newegg for notebooks. Its not about being anti newegg but being pro reseller:
Resellers here have actual representatives that try to keep a great customer service, generally offer way more options for configuration, deals and have actual people with great knowledge or support (Meaker, derek, Ken). As well as offering additional support besides stock MSI service.
of course you can always buy from amazon or newegg or major retailers but i think that if you are going to invest money on a laptop might as well get the better support for free. -
So Gentech and XoticPC are able to upgrade the Wireless, monitor and disk drives. Darn I would have like to have gotten better thermal paste, a better drive combination, and 802.11AC. Oh well, I just assumed it would not be upgradeable more or less like the Razer. Now I wish I hadn't ordered from Newegg, but at least it was cheaper than a custom version.

But the important thing is that you are happy with your machine.
how easy does it seem to open it up and self upgrade? Most msis are easy to upgrade to but these new gs series might be a bit harder due to form factor.
how are temps? -
When you buy from GentechPC you are helping a small business, and you get actual tech support. When you order from the heavy weight resellers you don't get tech support (that is covered by the factory), you get a return period. Past that you depend on the factory for warranty and support.
You also get to customize your machines buying from the Boutique resellers, can't do that with the big guys.
I have bought my main machines from the small boutique resellers and will continue to do so in the future, with my preference being GenTechPC.

The big guys also force feed you whatever latest OS Microsoft is peddling these days. I prefer the custom options, experience and care you get from our Resellers. If you are particular about your specs, it is nice to be able to tweak your system, with any number of changes and upgrades at the source, and still stay in warranty.

Do these guys ship to canada ?

Was looking at purchasing from GentechPC as well since they have a sale on Windows 7 but I wonder how to handle installing drivers since this model doesn't support Windows 7...
-
The main issue i see with windows 7 is that so far the better power handling capabilities of intel haswell are better realized in windows 8. At least that appears to be the case for gt60.
I guess there are very few users still. -
I have an MSI GS70 I got last week from Newegg, and it's been fine. It runs pretty hot but the CPU stays at 2.6GHZ or more even with all 8 threads active and a gfx benchmark running at the same time. Intel XTU reports throttling but it must be some sort of voltage throttling or else 2.6GHZ is the throttle freq. It always seems fast even when running very hot and under load.
It does run very hot, however. Running 8 threads and a gfx benchmark like Unigine Heaven temps rise to 100C, but that's still ok for a Haswell and the CPU freq stays at 2.6GHZ or higher even at those times.
The GPU really doesn't get too hot, hottest ive seen is 80C and its hard to get it over 75. During marathon gaming sessions it runs a max of 59 or 60C. Its important to note I can only get it to heat up under benchmarks, in normal Adobe Rendering or Gaming the GPU stays 60C or under, usually closer to 50. And the CPU never gets over 80C. But running Prime95 and Heaven 4.0 you can get the temps to really climb, without any ill effects apparently. The system never slows significantly although it gets quite hot. -

I guess I would like to butter in
I have bought many times things from newegg and I have good experience with them as well. They have good customer service and they are quite efficient. However, I am very impressed with the team we see on this forum from all the resellers and big companies like dell, trying their best to help us out get the best out of our purchases including build options and customer services.
I am one of the guys who has had a wonderful experience with Ken from gentechpc from day one and I am sorry if I am going to hurt anybody's feeling but this was not the case with xoticpc, which they were exactly the opposite of what Ken did for me. And as a matter of fact, I was looking at their prices and website, chatting with them for quite sometimes (near a month), when I was actually not satisfied because they did not show me that confidence that they will be with me until the day I will get the machine in my hand and even after that + their answers were very vague and not really paying attention to my questions.
I am not exaggerating, but when I saw gentechpc website, I called directly in US (I am in Canada) and got Ken right away. He explained everything to me from A to Z and he answered to all my queries; as a matter of fact I have even had some issues with the payment (some restriction with paypal) and I got delayed in paying him, but he did his best and had the machine repasted and shipped the same day because I was supposed to travel shortly. Anyway, I am not going into details, but I liked because he went beyond my expectations and he didn't had to do that; I respect very much very hard working people, devoted and doing their best for their customers / clients (I am saying this from my own experience). Another person I have noticed on this forum being very active and attentive is Meaker (though I have never had any business dealings through / with him, but, is never too late).
Back to the story, customization is a good deal especially when you will also benefit of some discount and most of it when you have limited hardware experience (opening / upgrading parts / etc.). -
-
Yes Juliant is right. You will see many people being vocal about resellers mainly because this is what they transmit to the end consumer. I think, from reading what most GS70 users are saying so far, that they would benefit from a change in thermal paste as their CPU temps are quite high.
