Hello there guys . Long story short , i spilled some coffee on the keyboard of my MSI gs40, not a lot , maybe like one spoon's worth Turned the laptop upside down , turned it off immediately , unplugged the AC . Let it like this for some hours , turned it back on . The laptop works , no problem other than the fact that the keyboard doesnt work anymore ... None of the keys seem to work allthough the coffee was spilled on th center right area .... Like i said , it wasnt much coffee ... I dont know what to do now . I have no warranty since i bought it from a guy , online , that got it as a present and didnt have any documenta to it ... I ve searched on ebay for msi gs 40 keyboard and i ve found some @ around 100usd with warranty . The touch pad works without any problems .
Question : if i buy that keyboard could i replace it without having to also replace the touch pad . I ve searched infos about msi gs 40 keyboard replacement but there aren't any ... Any advice would help me a lot . Im from Romania currently travelling in Vietnam and this laptop is my life !!! Thank you .

Your best bet is to contact MSI support and ask whether they can provide a replacement keyboard or a quotation for repair.

If you are comfortable with taking the laptop apart - do it yourself once you got the replacement part.

    Good luck!

I ve read that the keyboard its glued somehow to the frame and that i must change the c panel (which i dont even know what is ).... I could buy the keyboard and go to a normal service and ask them to do it ? Your advice was given on a generic basis or do you know exactly about the gs40 situation ? Im asking cuz i m so far away from home and i have no idea where to go here , in Vietnam . The keyboard its 100 usd and that seems like a resonable price ... Is there any chance that my keyboard , now , after a while and after it dries out a bit more will work ? Should i wait for a bit longer ? Thank you a lot for you reply !

When you had a water spill accident on the keyboard, it could cause a short which destroyed it.
Also, the coffee residual can be stuck between keys and the membrane contact underneath which can cause key-stuck behavior.
Unfortunately, the keyboard is going to be difficult to repair, it's probably better to replace it.

First call MSI locally in the country you are and ask for a quote for the repair it might not be more expensive then just buying a new keyboard.
