A little late to the game I know, but has anyone had any issues with the GPU in the dock not getting switched over to? I've had the dock all this time, but mainly only used it for the additional hard drive. I finally got around to getting a cheap GPU to hook up an extra monitor (Already using the 5200's HDMI on the laptop), and after install none of the display ports (DVI, VGA, HDMI...) seem to send any signal to the display or get detected at any rate.

The even stranger thing is the GPU works just fine from a system perspective. The AMD drivers pick up the card, and install just fine. I can even go into GPU-Z and see the sensors. The problem is, the card can't be used at all. Everything just uses the 5200, and no performance increase is noted. I'll run these games in Windowed mode so I can watch the External cards sensor data, and the GPU clock just hangs out at 205Mhz, with all the other sensors showing the GPU is in it's low power 2D mode. I've used both the 13.12 AMD drivers, and the last 15.7 Crimson that's supported for the 6970.

The only thing I can think of is the GPU is for some reason too old, but I don't understand what that would have to do with the display outputs not working. Hmm..

In the AMD control panel, the displays are not detected on any of the outputs... So basically the GPU just has its driver installed and sucks off some power but is completely useless. I noticed from some of the video's I've seen of the dock in action the external GPU seems to be immediately used as soon as it's powered on.. I don't see any kind of option in the BIOS that would allow me to configure these settings or do anything else.. I really don't think it's driver related, as I feel the display would have worked as soon as the machine boots up anyways... If anyone knows what I should try to fix this problem please let me know. Thank you.

Great to see this thread bumped up. I'm thinking of picking up one of these machines with dock. What is the lowest price I can get form US/UK/Germany? I've tried to google as much as I can but Amazon just raises the prices the more I keep checking out the price on it.

Surprisingly these hold their value pretty well. Probably because the i7-4870HQ (can also be overclocked of course) is still extremely fast even compared to a lot of the desktop offerings. Plus, you have the constant adaptability that the dock provides.. Which realistically will be up to date as long as PCI-Express 3.0 is a thing. From what I've seen, you're lucky if you can get this thing under the $1,000 dollar mark without a GPU installed.

Although this machine has some issues (only two USB3 ports, throttling on any CPU intensive task) the core aspects are that its still the only machine in its league. I still dont understand why MSI will not release another machine with only Iris Pro and no dGPU that hooks up to the dock. Its driving me insane. There was the MSI GS32 which had a crappy dual core, and then the unicorn-esqe MSI GS40 6QD (the QD version is the on with the dock and exceedingly rare and stupidly expensive).

A skylake/Kabylake quad core with iris pro and a similar dock connector would have been fantastic. Alienware is still sticking to its proprietary connectors as well as adding TB3 to their lineups.
MSI has some very strange ways of making decisions.

On top of that, I'm going to China for a few months and dont want to mess with gaming laptops. A sleek quad i7 powered ultrabook with a dock are all I ask for and it seems there is no way to get it for a reasonable price.

It went below 1000 in june but now Amazon is price gouging. Very annoying. I've been eying this amazing machine since before its launch.
