That is an amazing deal even knowing that a refresh is right around the corner, considering I want a laptop before the school year starts. Did you buy?

From what MSI has shown so far, it looks like the newer GS30 will NOT even be Skylake. It will be Broadwell.

    http://www.msi.com/gaming-iframe/nb/GS30-2M-Shadow.html#hero-specification

Obviously this could change since Skylake is basically released, but I doubt MSI would just throw away the effort spent with Broadwell.

Could be (sure hope so, it's already slightly outdated), but I have never even seen a Broadwell GS30 released or for sale in the wild.
Plus at Computex, they were showing the newer GamingDock Mini with the updated GS30 that had Broadwell. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9402/computex-2015-the-msi-booth-tour/3

well a quick look at the new specs... the 5950 and 5700hq (5th gens) will be running the iris pro 6200... so the specs are a bit out of wack on the new model

Nice call. You can always use the money you save to buy extra monitors, 2133Mhz RAM, 2x500GB SSDs, a 3.5" HDD or a better GPU.

The haswell CPU will not bottleneck the GTX 980ti ...... and i don't see a reason it won't handle a titan when they get cheaper later on (albeit bigger PSU)...... yes more SSD goodness (m.2) and other stuff.... the savings was a no brainer.... saved about $800 with this deal (and i scored 1 extra year warranty for free)

Iris pro intel chips will be next year so that could cause delays in any updates. At 1440p my CPU keeps up with my clocked titan-x just fine, even beyond 60fps.

Meaker im super impressed with your titan mods.... Do you have a full part list? And did you really need to cut the dock for the 120mm fan?

You could go with a 92mm radiator if you intend to run stock and just want to make it quiet without having to cut the dock (you would need to take the plastic side panel as I have described earlier in the thread).

    Here are all the parts:

the full list @frysie (I think)

    1x titan-x
    1x 500W Silverstone SFX-L PSU
    2x corsair SP120 fans.
    1x akasa slim 120mm fan.
1x Koolance high density 30FPI radiator
1x EK DDC pump + 100mm res combo
    1x EK Titan-X block
1x EK Titan-X back plate (red)
1x Gelid extreme 4 way PWM splitter
1x Bitfenix alchemy LED strip + 4 pin molex to LED cable striped to fit it to the GPU.
1x set of 6 monsoon compression fittings (black chrome)
5x monsoon right angle adapters (black chrome)
2x monsoon 45 degree angle adapters (black chrome)
1x pack of screws for radiator
    1x Laser Cut dragon :D
    1x Can of plastidip primer
    1x Can of plastidip red
    1x Bottle of mayhems clear
    1x Bottle of mayhems red
    1x Length of masterklear tubing

Open all the packaging, check carefully for things like fingerprints and make sure all the bits and pieces are there.

I've been lurking on every forums I can find on the GS30 for a while. I currently have a GS70 but the 970m just doesn't cut it at home with 3 external 1080p monitors plugged into it. I'm looking to upgrade to the Titan X via the GS30 but I'm waiting for the 2M to be released and the new (and more practical) dock. I've read that the new dock will only have a PSU for 330W. However, nVidia recommends 250W for the Titan X so it should be fine, correct?

Also, I saw that a few of you use 2x of the 500GB model of the 850 Evo. Would 2x of the 1TB model work for a total of 2TB internal storage?

    Thanks a bunch! :)

The drives are m.2 and currently there are no 1TB in that type. If they ever do come out, they should work.

1TB of internal storage is good enough for me, nothing that 4TB 3.5 in the dock won't fix. ;)

But to my other, more important question: since the mini dock will have a 330W PSU and the Titan X is rated at needing 250W, a Titan X should sitll work in the smaller dock, right?

It'll severely limit your overclocking potential and GPU Boost 2.0 may not work correctly due to power bottleneck.

250W is a modest number, if you do burn-in app such as Furmark the actual power consumption will be higher = 375W.

Well... ****...I was really hoping that wouldn't be the case. Thanks for the heads-up everybody :)

I plan on having the dock stationary at my house for the most part but I plan on going somewhere for a few days or going to a friend's place to do some real gaming, I'd want to bring the dock with me. For those of you that have the dock and everything, the laptop's screen still works while it's docked, right? It's just the keyboard and trackpad that don't? I know that with the new 2M laptop, you should be able to use the laptop fully when docked so how uncomfortable would it be to use the laptop's keyboard on the full dock and a desperate mouse on whatever surface the dock is sitting on?
