I know you can add another ddr3 ram to this model, but I was wondering if I could upgrade my gpu. If it is possible to upgrade my gpu (from the Geforce 840m), would the cpu (Intel 15 4210H @2.90 GHZ) be able to handle the extra load? I was thinking maybe an Geforce 880m

Sadly, no... The GPU and also The CPU are soldered onto the motherboard.

So there's really no way to boost performance?

Nope you'd need a laptop like the GT60 with an mxm-x graphics card that can be swapped out. The GP60 doesn't have that so your gonna have to upgrade. Additionally, the 880m draws a lot more power than an 840m, so even if you could do it, I'm not sure it would work because you couldn't supply the power to it.

You can't swap out the CPU, but you can use Intel XTU to overclock it.
Additionally, GPU can be overclocked using MSI Afterburner or Nvidia Inspector utilities.
A modded BIOS and VGA BIOS will help to push performance further, however they aren't always available.
You should consult with Svet at MSI forum who may be able to assist you on this request.

Sorry yes, Kevin is correct, you can see a boost in performance, but it won't really be the same as if you switched to an 880m, maybe you could push it to an 850m if your lucky.

Yup, 880M would provide more headroom than a 850M.
