To be frank, I’m exceptionally excited for this laptop to arrive.
Is anyone else?

Looking at the reviews from RTX 2070 and 2080max Q notebooks, not so much.
-
I must admit, yes, for the addition of other features that suit their portability.
I was just curious about exploiting the power of the full 2080 in the GE75, and its cost margin between itself and the GS75. -
There is no "full" 2080. its going to be so massively TDP limited it won't be very good... The only good thing might be the new AA method they are using. -
In normal raster performance, the new GPUs are competitive vs current laptop GPUs, but their ray tracing performance really gets impacted.

In the video he says non-maxQ (6:18 in the video)?

Well, I am slightly crazy but somehow I managed to snag a GE75 with 2080 from NewEgg. Guess it was the last one since it went to out of stock after I ordered. Should be here tomorrow....

On the GE75 with the 2070 how can you tell if it's the Max Q or the full version?
Have one reserved for pickup tomorrow. -

All the marketing on the official MSI site says that it's a 2080 full, Not a max-Q for the Raider GE75
-
The way the Raider series appears to be marketed, is that they contain the full 2070 and 2080 RTX chips. They differentiate to the Stealth series which have MaxQ cards, thinner form factor, smaller power bricks, etc. Stealth being more aimed towards portability and less power consumption, whereas the Raider series aimed at hopefully better thermal performance due to their thicker size, giving reason to include full RTX chips.
In a review video above, the GPU manages to stay at 74°C which is superb, but yet again the CPU seems to heat up into the 90’s.
Curious to see what improvements can be achieved with different thermal pastes, throttling etc. I have high hopes for this device considering its cost compared to the Stealth series. -
-
Surely if they included the MaxQ version without advertising it, they would cop a lot of flak from the consumer base.Attached Files:

so during CES, I watched a video(don't know what one) where they mentioned something about Haptic feedback on the left wrist rest area. I think it was when they were looking at the raider though its possible it was the titan, but it seemed interesting. Also its possible that was just a prototype. anyone else catch this or have more info?
Edit:
I think I found it on this site https://gizmodo.com/msis-latest-laptops-are-smaller-sturdier-and-some-eve-1831768496
"So to help balance the “new feature” side of the equation, MSI is testing out a neat haptic feedback system on the new GE75 Raider that uses a motor installed beneath the left palm rest so you can really feel things like gunshots and explosions. It’s basically the laptop equivalent of controller rumble on consoles, and while I admit it does sound a bit gimmicky, it’s actually a nice way to add some extra spice to FPS titles that I can see expanding to more systems down the road."
don't know if its on this new batch though.ubelai likes this. -

I am looking forward to your impressions once yours arrives.

I dont mind the plastic bottom, or being a little thicker than the gs65. Its the trackpad that really bugs me. Why cant the raider have a nice trackpad like the premium gs65?
By giving a mediocre trackpad they relegate the raider to be a small dtr with which we'd probably use a mouse at a desk.
Otherwise besides fat Clevos this seems to be the best full 2080 laptop right now.
....im thinking that Samsung is taking Nvidias advice and not labelling the 2080 in the Odyssey a maxq. Its just gotta be right? -
I agree that this raider GE is a fantastic gaming machine still thin enough. -
Never used the touchpad on a gaming laptop. Disabled on first boot and never looked at again

I mostly do the same. I disable it via FN keys, because I do use my laptop as a laptop every now and then.

Will have my GE75 2080 Saturday! Can’t wait!!!!
-
My only concern with this laptop is the potential high fan noise, I could be very wrong but didn’t the old model of this series have really loud fans when gaming? Like in the 50Db range?
I know people are going to say just wear some headphones but that’s not a option since I have to be pretty alert taking care of someone and can’t have my ears covered when they need something.
Overall I like it though it’s still compact enough to be pretty portable for a 17” laptop but it’s a bummer there is no Gsync.
Why does MSI hate Gsync so much? -
You don’t really need GSYNC at a high frame rate really. Wouldn’t say they “hate” gsync, they leave it out to keep costs down most likely.
Also if anyones curious on duty to Canada on the GE75 2080 from HIDevolution it was $119 CAD (Alberta). Kinda of odd since I pay 5% tax, it should of been $200+. Oh well I’ll take it!Last edited: Jan 31, 2019 -

I just built one on HID’s website with just the cooling upgrade to test for you. With $50 rush and fedex ground it was around 3k usd. So that would be $4100 ish CAD @ $1.37
My order below was $3373.70 USD / Paid by paypal and was $4631.71 CAD.
Note I swapped the standard NVME for a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB NVMe ($300 USD) among a few other upgrades you can see below.
Paid $50 for rush build (1-5 days) and shipping was fedex ground 1-5 days $38 ish.
You can build the setup you like on HID’s website then check the current conversion rate. I believe it was $1.37 ish at my time of purchase.

Hi guys, I don’t post much but I had a question as I’m shopping around like the rest of us. Just hoping some can confirm for me that the only difference between the GT75 Raider 2080 and the GT63 Raider 2080 is the screen size? Mine will always be hooked up to a monitor so I don’t care about screen size, and would prefer to have a much smaller laptop assuming it’s the same power. I know it’s all theoretical since no one has one in hand yet but hopefully the specs alone can confirm it. Thanks in advance.

and I know what you mean. I am also looking to "sidegreade" myself into a more portable machine, which is why I am thinking about the GS75. It has nearly the same power as my GT73 but considerable thinner and smaller/portable, plus better screen.
I would go for the GS65 if it wasn't for the lack of numpad which I do use, and because 15 inch screen on these eyes is not as pleasant as beforehahaha

The 2080 is a small upgrade overall, but is going to give you around 20 and up to 30% more performance at high resolution (1440p and 4K) over a single GTX1080. Games that have SLI support, you will loose some performance, but games that don't support SLI you will have more performance. at 1080p it will be like 10% faster on average.
Nvidia is slowly changing/killing SLI and sadly that's no longer an option, so the best route is going the strongest GPU you can. -

i just ordered from B&H Photo the GE63 8SG. I guess it's the smallest full RTX 2080 available right now. Having said that, it's only within a half inch basically in depth of the GE75 and a 1/4 inch in width. I suppose they weren't able to slim those bezels and still fit a 2080 in there.
I would have gone with the 17" for sure except that 1080P just looks that much worse on 17". I've seen that exact type of screen on my old Aorus X9 DT and the 15" is noticably sharper. At least on the Razer Blade 15. ( my only comparision)
I think in the fall/late summer there may be power efficient 1440P high refresh screens available and then i'm going slim bezel 17" from now on.ryzeki likes this. -
