New to the forum, MSI and gaming laptops. Not a gamer but needed the horsepower for sports shooting software and love the MSI aesthetics. When researching I took Phoenix advise to purchase from Don at HIDEvolution and it's arriving today. I thought I read something from Phoenix as to contacting him for best practices or things to consider in getting it dialed in but I seem to be unable to message so i guess I'm in newbie hell.

I went with the streamline install so I don't have to deal with a bunch of *crap* I don't need or want. HOORAY!!! That alone is worth any premium associated with purchasing through HIDEvolution.

Any pointers to things I should read or look at would be appreciated. With so much information out here and not really sure of key terms to use for searching a bit of guidance would be fantastic so I don't jack something up. =)

    Awesome man! Congratulations!

Once you get it, when you first turn it on and get the initial Windows 10 Setup Wizard, it will prompt you to connect to a Wireless Network, click on SKIP on the bottom right otherwise you will be forced to login with a Microsoft account which I strongly advice against.

Also, when it prompts you to enter a password, leave the blank for now as during our tweaking session, we will need to reboot a lot and that will just slow us down.

First thing I want you to do to save us time is to right click on your start menu button, then choose SYSTEM, from there,, hit Rename This PC and choose a name for your computer. (ie. I name mine TITAN). The name should be in capital letter. Some of the tweaks are tied to the PC name and thus, you want to name it properly from the get go rather than keeping the default random name which Windows assigns it ( DESKTOP-999-BLABLABLA)

Next, go to PC Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and perform all the Windows updates. After rebooting, check for updates again just to make sure there aren’t any more updates

The moment you are in Windows, go ahead and do all the Windows updates which will take a long time, then download and install TeamViewer then run it, it will give you an ID/Password which you could pass on to me via a PM so I can connect to you.

You won't be able to PM me unless I PM you first so what you want to do is, when you get it, just tag me by using the @ sign then type my username right after it with no spaces and I will PM you then

Thanks! I got it! But I haven't been able to break open the box yet. ;-(

But I'm excited to do so! I will walk through everything you listed and get the updates rolling overnight before hitting the rack. If you are around tomorrow, let me know of a good time for you and I'll see about being available. I'm so buried right now...and I didn't expect it till next week and up to my elbows in alligators this weekend. I plan to hunker down with it over the Labor Day holiday for sure. =)

    Pacific time zone here

    THANKS!!

Oh my God this is fast (from general OS use perspective) It flew through the updates in about 15 minutes and totaled 1 reboot so far. Beautiful sleek laptop! Need to figure out the keyboard lighting so it can start dazzling. =)

This is outstanding. I want to wear soft gloves when using it cuz my stupid greasy fingers are leaving their mark. =)

One thing, I'm not familiar with fresh builds of Win10 and the user came up as Default0 so I selected Admin and it says it is disabled. Then I couldn't get back to the Default0 login so I just rebooted and was able to get in as Admin. I checked the user accounts and only Admin was listed so I left it as is and updated etc...this morning I opened from sleep and got right in but now I'm locked out again as disabled.

I didn't notice that support isn't available over the weekend which is probably the time most convenient for me but it isn't a deal breaker. I would have made more effort to get it opened and logged in yesterday if I had known that though. Not a fan of rebooting to fix problems but that may be my only choice at this point. Will wait for direction though. Just wonder why it disabled after letting me in.

I was never directed to use a MS login so far and am connected to our Wifi with TeamViewer loaded. I will check back in a few hours to see if Phoenix is available to day, if not, I can wait. I'm not going to rush anything and my schedule is very much lacking in time for the next few days.

Just wanted to chime in and say I've ordered a very similar system from HIDEvolution in the past and had great experiences from them. About to order my second system now (which will be an MSI GS65)
