The instructions from MSI official forum state:
"If do you flash a notebook BIOS, you must do the following AFTER the flash:
1. Turn notebook OFF with button, hold 4 seconds.
2. Remove recharge plug
3. Remove battery
4. Leave it like this for about 5 minutes.
5. Put everything back and power the laptop again."
The purpose of it obviously is to reset EC. This is all fine and updating of my BIOS went flawlessly, however, I CANNOT REMOVE BATTERY. Because it is simply non-removable in my laptop.
So, how can I reset EC?

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Look at the bottom of the laptop for a small pin hole, and use that to disconnect the battery.

The only hole I was able to find: https://i.imgur.com/lJuYAny.jpg
It doesn't look it is connected to anything. -
There should be some kind of switch straight down the hole.
-
around ccmos battery is small button - CMOS or EC reset
but no need - 45s power button when run "cmos reset" works similar or better

if exist hole on back-cover is marked with -
I see it him
this mark is EC
//edit ,.,steps
EC reset ,.no AC / fully shutdown ,,.,.small hole on back-cover - 30s
after this plug AC ,.,.wait 5min .,,.run system
you must see different boot time or blinking diodes
"best is disable wifi before" and see this diode in reset
identical boot - no reset

cmos reset - restore all your bios setup to defaults !
EC reset - bios configuration is identical

I did everything as described, even waited a bit longer.
But I am not sure if the boot was really different or it's just my imagination. By the way, using this switch won't let the PC to boot without AC, so the switch is definitely there and it works.
Does it have something to do with EC version? After the upgrade I see the new BIOS version, but unfortunately I forgot which EC version was before upgrade, so I am not sure if it changed with BIOS version or after EC reset (if I succeeded doing it). -

you not must risk update ! install only latest MEI drivers - topic here on forum
or latest is 11.8.86 fw - this is no-vulnerable in this detection tool
unofficial flash - RISKS ! -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-laptops-drivers.800622/page-191
last MEI drivers "safe"
,,.ME FW ? you need any this SECURITY ??
The benefits for the average user are minimal and the flash is risk
bad flash is "half/working notebook or dead notebook !"
edit

I will add a warning
never disable this ME fw in bios !! this version is impossible re-activated
11.8.50 or older !! "possitible or new" but here exist info in change-log FIX for this problem
but I never recommend turning off ME FW in bios !! -
Thanks, I have updated chipset drivers from your link, but I am hesitant to use unofficial version of MEI, as it can literally kill the whole system.
MSI official webpage only provides update to Version 11.6.0.1015 (Release Date 2017-01-12), and as far as I know ME firmware needs to be assembled separately for each motherboard - this is also the reason why Intel does not provide any generic updates.
Is there any official safe update for my MSI laptop newer than 11.6.0.1015? -
you confuse it
MEI drivers - OK
ME FW - problem
links here - safe "for drivers" not contains flashtool or FW !Last edited: Nov 6, 2021 -
official ME118H package contains - old drivers MEI + ME FW FLASH "11.8.50.3425 FW" but that's still old FW! "SA-86 fix only"
full patch is only - last ME FW / MEI DRIVERS
edit
drivers - they are safe to use "these are up to date" -this link is recommended for win1709 +Last edited: Nov 6, 2021 -
I see, thanks. I have successfully updated MEI drivers.
However, the link you've provided for 11.8.50.3425 FW contains only detection tool, the same I've already used myself.
EDIT,
NVM, found the official ME118H on the MSI websiteLast edited: Nov 6, 2021 -
Ok, I have updated to ME118H. Despite this, the app from the official Intel website shows my system is still vulnerable, while the one from your link now detects it as patched:

I think I get what you are trying to say - ME118H fixes only the old vulnerability, while there is another one, newer, and the newer detection tool still sees it. To fix the newest vulnerability 11.8.86 is needed - but it is unofficial ONLY and can harm my system.
The latest drivers - MEI, however, can be used with any ME version.
NeXt3R likes this.
