Hi, I recently purchased a GE70 2PE Apache to play games while I'm working out of town, and I ran furmark just to see how temps are and it climbs to 90c within 5 mins of being flat on a smooth glass surface in roughly 21c ambient, and once it hits that 90c it starts to scale its GPU power down to maintain 90c. It seems to like to sit around 900mhz clock speed which is 100mhz lower than its max. If I lift the back corner to give it better air flow it starts to cool off, then speed its GPU up but it still sits at around 88-90c. Is this normal for these machines? If it is normal I'm not against using a cooling pad at all. I just want to make sure if this is abnormal I can get it dealt with before the 10 day no questions asked return policy is over.

Furmark is meant to do that :p it's to check for stability and stress testing. What are your idle and gaming temps like?

I idle at around 50-55c and after gaming for an hour or so temps get to around 80-85c and stabilize there. With the cooling pad the gaming temps are about 8-10c cooler. I've just never owned a laptop and know with my desktop 90c is a real no no. I do like that the computer self regulates it power after 90c. The highest Ive seen it go up to is 93c, but then it throttles down clock speeds to get back to 89-90c.

50-55 idle? I really recommend you to repaste ... Idle temps in GE70 should be around 35-40

Hmm, I have a GT60 and my CPU temps at the moment hover around 40-50C with Chrome, Spotify, Skype, utorrent running so if you think your idle temps are a bit high then you can perform a repaste to lower temps significantly. This would also be helpful to prevent it reaching the 90C throttling point.
