Hey all,
What program or setting is making my 9750H Processor to ramp up to 4.3 GHz automatically during a load? Is it customizable? Say if I wanted to set a turbo speed of 3.5GHz for everyday use.

throttlestop

Taking a look in the bios, there's this Intel Speed Shift setting. That must be what's doing it. Makes the processor ramp up as fast as it will go apparently. I's not configureable beyond enable or disable.
I guess if you disable it, the processor will run at it's stock 2.6GHz all the time? Nope, just tried it.Last edited: Jan 24, 2020 -
Ehh, don't mess with bios things until you read and learn something.
And here is a link to the only one ultimate tool you need

Decided to do a fresh windows 10 install on this new GE65 Raider. Brought cpu speeds down alright, to 2.4GHz, too damed slow. Guess I'm just hard to please.
I don't know what original MSI software it was that was controlling the processor overclocking speeds. I reinstalled Dragon Center for handling fan speeds and it has a turbo mode that allows you to set Core Clock Offset and VRAM Clock Offset but I didn't record what those were originally set to. Wouldn't have mattered anyway since I didn't run it in turbo mode.
So something else was allowing the processor to run in turbo up to around 4.4 GHz originally and I have no idea what it was.
Any insight?
I took a look at that Throttlestop thread link. Made my eyes glaze over and thought I was going blind for a second. -
Uninstal Dragon Center as you don't need it.
For fan Control use msi silent option.
For rgb keyboard you need Steel Series engine.
For cpu clocks, Power limits, undervolting etc use throttlestop ( if you have problem with it ask question in The thread I posted you)
For gpu oc/ undervolting use msi afterburner.
Use proper tools and take time to read something as Dragon center is not recomended tool. -
Think I figured it out. I had forgotten I had read about and set the Processor Power Management Maximum in Advanced Power Settings to 99% for disabling turbo. Set it back 100% and it's back up to 4.2GHz. A little slower than its maximum before the fresh install of Windows. The drivers installed with windows may have something to do with that.
Before doing the fresh install of Windows, I had set the keyboard lighting the way I wanted it with Steelseries and the keyboard has kept it thru-out the 2 fresh installs(screwed up the first one). So for now, I see no reason to reinstall that software.
I've tried to wrap my head around the nuances of overclocking in the past. I'm sure you've seen that stick figure cartoon of the guy beating his fists and head on his computer to a bloody death. That's me.
If I don't have someone elses settings to try for a starting point, I'm lost.
Thanks for your responses.Last edited: Jan 25, 2020
