I think MSI may have been considered unreliable in the past, but it can be hard to say what companies are more than 50% unreliable because all electronics parts can have problems regardless of the manufacturer. Some have more problems than others. However, I think MSI has come a long way as far as reliability is concerned.

I'm not too sure about that model, but the newer models are definitely built to last...paired with a 2-3 year warranty. From what I saw from some small research, the reviews on that particular laptop are better than average. Depending on the price and condition, it could be a great deal.

Its hard to say what "50% unreliable" means without a given time period.

Though yes I agree, when a whole laptop fails for some misc. reason it depends on any number of manufacturers that went into the thing like Nvidia, Hitachi or Atmel.

This is actually interesting to think about when considering different ODMs because companies like Toshiba and Sony sometimes manufacturer more of the individual parts like LCDs and even ICs on the motherboard. So one could feel rightly informed by placing more trust in certain ODMs depending on other information.

MSI is a big manufacturer of desktop motherboards, video cards ETC and have been for a long time.
The only real opinion I have of them is based on laptops, yes there were a lot of bad models in the past. They have made a very major change for the better around the time they started getting 16:9 LED screens.
It may have even been a manufacturer MSI is using for the chassis design, and its very possible they have changed heatsink manufacturers (has been forcecon or foxconn) as the cooling systems are much better too.

Of course, its worth noting that a 3 year warranty is as much reassurance you should need for 3 years... ;)
