    Hi!!

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct thread (mi apologies in advance if that's the case). I've pondering the possibility of buying a MSI GE60 with an I5 haswell and a geforce 765M because it has such a good price / performance ratio. But I wanted to know if it's possible to upgrade the I5 cpu to a I7 model like a 4700MQ in the future because i could really use the 4 physical cores for virtualization (and of course, the raw cpu power for gaming :p). In case it could be done (i think it should be the case, sockets are compatible), would it be temperature wise? I read this laptop runs quite hot.

Thanks a lot for reading :)

The CPU wont have much impact on gaming, you would be restricted by the GPU but yes it can be upgraded.

Nice! So an I7 with a GTX765M is not a good match? I don't expect a lot of improvement on gaming (maybe in a few games), but i thought it would be more noticeable. Anyway, i suppose it's better than that MSI model with the AMD cpu and the radeon 8970...
    Anyway, what about the temperatures?

    Thanks!!

It's fine and the i7 can help those who multi task a lot and there may be one or two titles that see a slight increase.

Temperatures will be similar to the dual core.

The GX series? The GPU is substantially better, but the A10 is nothing to write home about. An i5 outperforms an A10 in most areas, so an i5 or an i7 would be better for you all around (in and out of gaming).

Temps on the GE series could definitely stand to be lower, so even with an i5, I recommend upgrading the compound (IC Diamond or comparable) at least. The copper heat sinks help some too, though it's entirely up to you and how much stress you think you'll be putting on the laptop. :)

All GE60 models use the same cooling regardless if they come stock with an i5 or i7. The i7 stock models dont have any overheating issues so if you do ever upgrade the i5 to and i7 you wont have overheating to worry about.
