So I've been torn between the new GE40 and GE60 notebooks, but I think I would prefer the nicer keyboard and display on the GE60. With that said I cant find concrete info anywhere on if the GE60 actually has free msata ports so that I can buy my own SSD and install it later.

    Specifically I'm looking at this model the GE60 2OE-002US MSI GE60 2OE-002US i7 4700MQ 8GB 750GB 15.6in HD GTX765M 2GB DVDRW Windows 8 Gaming Notebook

Now the reason I'm concerned is that I know the GE40 has a version that doesnt have Msata(I think the Msata is a caddy that replaces the ODD) and I dont want to buy a GE60 and an msata drive just to find out that my version doesnt have the caddy, and I know it would probably be impossible to find an OEM caddy like that aftermarket. Ive looked at XoticPC and they have the 003US version, which has 2 options for Msata when you configure it, but what is the difference if any to the 002US version? I dont want to order from Xotic as I am in Canada and would just prefer to get it from NCIX or Canada Computers.

If anyone has actually got their hands on one and could let me know what the scoop is in regards to Msata that would be great.

When I configure it on GentechPC and ProStar they both show an mSata as an option separate from the 750Gb HDD and DVD Drive.
So it must have the slot separately.
They are also much cheaper to configure on these two sites than XoticPC...why IDK but it's worth the look.
Hopefully someone with the actual laptop can comment and confirm.

I just got a response from an MSI rep on the NCIX forums and thought I would share it here for anyone else who might be wondering this.

    Dear Spencer,

Thank you for your interest in MSI branded Notebooks. The GE60 2OE-002US has a regular SATA 3 bay in which lies current HDD that you can replace with an SSD. On top of that, there is an mSATA connector for you to add an mSATA drive if you wish. as far as your second question is concerned, there is no difference other than 2OE-002US is only sold in Canada and and the other in the United States.

Hope this clarifies your concerns. Please feel free to reach us other the phone too if you prefer. Enjoy your new MSI laptop

So looks like I am good to go! I am excited to order my notebook!

It actually has 2 mSATA slots :) that goes with the 2.5" bay and ODD bay.

Will do for sure, as soon as I get it, use it, and benchmark it a little. Should I open an owners lounge so people can start asking questions I should answer?

An owners lounge would be great I think.
If you can include several high res pictures of the outside and internals as well that'd be awesome.

Hi guys. I am considering to buy this notebook. The thing is that I already have SATA SSD Intel 840 pro and I want to use it with the GE60 2OE.

As understand I can replace notebook's HDD with the SSD. The question is: will I be able to attach the HDD that comes with the notebook and use it? Maybe remove DVD Drive and put the HDD there?

    Any ideas?

There is supposed to be a caddy available that allows you to place a HDD/SSD in place of the DVD drive.

You can get generic ones that take the face plate of your existing drive.

Yes but becareful when buying caddys, some ODD caddy doesn't allow you to change face plate and some does.
