Okay So since last night my Fan has a small annoying rattle to it. Everything is working fine but that rattle is just annoying the fan is blowing perfectly. I took the bottom off the laptop and everything looks fine. Any Ideas? When the fan speeds up it goes away but when its on low its noticable.

Maybe it's touching a cable? (If I remember correctly there are 2 cables that you have to disconnect to repaste the laptop, so maybe one got stuck below the fan as you put it back.)

If it is not a cable than it is bad.
Either bottom case is not straight or fan needs replacement.

Or the bearing is bad/not well lubricated.

You can remedy this with WD-40, although WD-40 is a bit of a crude fix - and very temporal. It would be better to use a high quality lubricant, such as something you find at a rifle store or tire shop.

    Hello,
I am having the exact same problem as posted earlier. Took it to a computer shop and they said the fan was broken. Sucks since I only purchased it July last year. The guy also said he couldn't find the fan anywhere, any ideas?

I checked out NBR marketplace, but couldn't find it there. Maybe I'm just blind, but and help would be immensely appreciated!

How did he assess the damage without being able to actually inspect the fan? I'd find a different technician to take it to for a second opinion. The rattling could be the fan, or it could be something obstructing the fan, or it could even be the case. If you're still under warranty, see if MSI will handle it for you.

Well he opened it up, took out the fan and assessed it basically. I've had my beloved laptop since July last year and I never got it cleaned so that's my fault of course. Wasn't sure how often I needed to clean the fan and I thought I could wait a few more weeks, mistake. But yeah I'll take it to another technician, just in case. What he said more precisely was that a lot of dust had been collected so now the fan wasn't spinning on an even surface basiacally. Therefore causing the loud noise. It's funny becuase I got to take it home in wait for the spare parts (which he couldn't find anywhere), and now it has been working perfectly fine for two days. The only thing is that now all the dust that was there has been removed. Still looking for a new fan though, I doubt this will last much longer...

I contacted MSI and they said the only way was for me to send it to them. I'm reluctant to do so because a) it will take ages b) I'll have to pay for shipping probably and c) I'm pretty sure my basic warranty won't cover the costs. Is there any way of knowing more about these things? Would their standard warranty cover a fan replacement? I tried contacting them but as I mentioned, they just told me to send it over.

Typically, as long as they don't deem it accidental/negligence, they will cover return shipping, parts and labor within the limited warranty period. Beyond warranty, you're looking at paying for pretty much everything.

I have a GE60. The fan had a bad bearing out of the box, and since I voided the warranty to put in an mSATA SSD for intel SRT. I cannot send it back. It used to not be a huge issue, but then it kept getting worse.
Seems they just wanted to cut corners and save money by putting cheaply manufactured fans in...

Trying to get 5 Posts so I can PM majster msi to get a new fan.

Don't worry. You can get warranty service from MSI even if the sticker is broken.
Contact your local MSI office for assistance.

Are you absolutely sure about that? I want to just replace my fan myself, but I want to be sure my warranty is still good in case something more serious fails in the future.

If you are in the US/Canada, then I am sure.
Warranty covers everything except physical damages including damages as a result from the upgrade processes.

Accidental damage is a little more apt as it also does not cover liquid damage or electrical damage either to my knowledge.

Yes, those too, any damages that isn't expected to see under normal and proper use.
