I'm considering purchasing the MSI G Series GT780DXR-446US since the specs are really quite nice. I'm wondering how good the 17" 1080p matte screen is with respect to color reproduction & viewing angles? Could anyone comment on this? My older 15" Asus G series also had a 1080P screen but the color reproduction as well as viewing angles were pretty bad. Since I have not been able to find the MSI locally, I have no idea what to expect! thanks :)

If it's really important to you there is a 90% colour gamut matte display you could swap in.

Otherwise most 1080p panels are acceptable but not hugely accurate, around the 60-65%.

MSI GT780DXR-446US's 17.3" matt screen has the same resolution as your older MSI G series. With current technology improvement, the quality and color are slightly better than 2 years ago.

MSI does not Glare type screen, which you can have better view angles and enrich the colors. I do not recommend 17.3" 90% Colour gamaut because some of the screens have dead pixels.

Which 90% color gamut screen are you referring to? I have both the matte & AUO 90% color gamut screens, and I can tell you the difference in the two is like night & day. Once you've seen the 90% screen, there is no going back..... it's a pretty, pretty screen, great clarity, with eye-popping color. This screen makes the stock matte screen look 'washed-out' & 'gray-scale' by comparison. More on this screen is posted HERE.

As far as dead pixels, not a one..... and besides I think most opting the 90% screen, will have this done by their custom building reseller...... who certainly will insure their customer's satisfaction, right? Wouldn't you?

The standard matte screen is okay but it sucks compared to the glossy Chi-Mei N173HGE 21 or the glossy Auo 90%. I would have happy with the chi-Mei screen over the Auo if I had a good one. I think the whites are a lot whiter and blacks blacker with the chi-Mei. The Auo 90% I think has more detail but is so different with color like candy coated pastels. Not very natural but I think after a week or so the colors tame down in a good way.
