Have a new MSI G Series GT60 2OC-077US on the way and I am trying to find out about installing a Samsung 840 EVO-Series 120GB SSD. Does anyone know if I will be able to use the Samsung and the stock 750GB 7200RPM hard drive or will I need to get a mSATA SSD?
    Thanks

If your machine shipped with one or more mSATA SSDs it will have one 2.5" bay (where your HDD is) and 3 msata slots (with one or more filled). If your machine shipped without any mSATA SSDs then it will have 2x 2.5" bays and one will be filled with the HDD and you have another slot open.

GT60 2OC-077US has 2 standard 2.5" SATA bays therefore you can use both SSD and the 750GB HDD together.
Make sure you create the recovery discs first from the existing OS using MSI BurnRecovery utility.
Once done, install the SSD and remove the HDD. Use Recovery discs to restore the OS onto the SSD.
Set the OS up, then put the HDD back into the system. You may need to check the BIOS options to make sure the SSD is your primary OS, or you can purge the existing data on the HDD completely.
As long as you have the original and working copy of recovery discs, you will get the same OS back no matter what.

Just got the system and have another question. Would it just be better to do a clean install on Windows instead of the recovery? And is there a primary SATA bay or do I just setup that up in the BIOS?

You can, but you can miss things here and there so it's best to remove software you don't need through "Uninstall a program" under Control Panel.
There aren't many bloatware but there are some.

If you're asking because you want to stick the Samsung drive in it, cloning might actually be your best bet. A clean install will take the longest as you'll need to install all the drivers and load whichever MSI proprietary utilities you want back onto the system.

Didn't take too long to install Win8 from DVD onto my GT70 Samsung SSD + the drivers from the MSI driver disk.

Windows installation is one of the many occasions where you see the speed in a SSD. Instead of an hour its under 10 mins, so much nicer.
