I'm curious if the 780 comes with a matte or glossy screen since I'm reading conflicting information. For example, Xoticpc sells all 780's with a matte screen (glossy is considered an upgrade). Other sites, like Newegg, list them as having just an anti-reflective screen and they don't say if it's glossy or matte.

The stock screen should be Matte. That's what the anti-reflective is in reference to (though not worded as clear as it could be).

--If you click through the reviews on NewEgg though (customer reviews), you'll see on page 2 (and 5) mentions of pros of having a Matte Display.

Thanks. I currently have a glossy screen. How you guys like the matte for gaming?

For gaming there is no difference for me but for watching movies it is big difference.

--It depends on the amount of ambient light where you're playing.

If you're playing in a room with Windows, or heavy single point lightsources -- like ceiling lighting, florescent lights (office area), or any other lamp that isn't directly covered, a Matte screen will show MUCH less glare.

That said ... Matte displays are superb compared to a glossy screen for gaming IF you're in a bright, well lit room, or playing during the daytime. -----That's not to say Glossy screens are better in the dark. Just that the key difference and why Matte is arguably better is bright lighting.

ok.....so what if I am going to be using my laptop mostly in dim lighting.....I will never be outside with it and I want to get the screen with the brightest "pop" to the colors...so in this case...should I stick with the Matte screen...or go with glossy? Also, is the screen calibration offered from some of the resellers really worth it ??

I think if you are in dim light most of the time and you want popping colors, then you should get the glossy. I just ordered the MSI GT780 with default matte screen and this will be my first matte. haven't heard any complaints on here about the screen so I'm hoping I'll like it.

Calibration is a good thing to have done, but really only necessary if you are into photography, such as viewing a lot of pictures or editing your own. Before I'd spend the money on calibration services, I'd buy my own calibrator. They are not that expensive. I have a Spyder2Express which I use on my laptops at home.

Post #3819 in the Official GT780 Owners Lounge has a custom ICC color profile for the stock GT780 series matte screen made with a Spyder 3.

There's also instructions on how it apply it if you don't know how.
