    Hello everyone,

So exactly a year ago me and friend bought 2 exactly identical(in terms of parts) MSI 1761 systems and we were very pleased till now.

2 nights ago my friend put his computer to sleep mode and went to sleep. The following morning the laptop would not even power up. The battery was on the laptop at night but not the AC adapter. He tried powering it on with the battery removed and the AC plugged in and vice versa but still nothing powers on. Note that the battery light bleeps when the battery is inserted. I told him to discharge the laptop by removing the battery and AC and holding the power button for like a minute and then plugging it back on the AC and see what happens. Well this time the power button bleeped for a second and it does that every time he does this recharge thing. Now a while ago he told me the screen would go black for 3-4 seconds and come up with a message that something crashed. I don't really know if this is related to the power up problem, it seems like a driver crash to me.

Anyway he took the rig to some "technicians" and told him that its probably the graphics card or the motherboards fault. I know big thing they told him and honestly I don't really believe anything this dime technicians say.

I told him to wait a few days so we can meet up and trade parts(ram, cpu, gfx) from my rig to his and see which is the faulty one.
Mine works pretty well and no problems so far btw.

So what do u think is the problem here? Is it really the gfx card? Cause it kinda doesn't make sense for me for the whole rig to not power on just because of a faulty gfx. The power button should at least light up dont u think?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated guys.

Nop it is no power caused probably by vga card or mainboard or even wifi/dvd rom it could be everything - also ram. You need remove things i already told one by one and then check if it powers up.
It could be also sensor board or tape.

Considering it was working fine when it went to sleep, running on battery. Id try the swapping the battery first.

Also found this on Google. Not MSI, but still worth a shot

    *Take out the battery,
    *Remove main supply,
*Hold power button down for 30 secs,
*Put only power supply in, do not put battery in
    *Turn laptop on
    *Put the battery in.

He has already tried removing the battery and powering it on only plugged in the AC so the battery most probably aint the problem.

About ur second suggestion he already did that as I told him and thats the only case where the power button lights just for a brief second.

The technician who he took it to told him there's something wrong with the motherboard and wants 175euros to fix it NOT replace it! What could be such an expensive problem on the motherboard that can be fixed and its worth the cost of the motherboard itself? Isn't this a little strange?

Chipset :). For 200 E you can buy new mainboard.
