    Hello everyone,

A few hours ago I think my 4 year olds MSI 1761 gtx 570m died. I see weird coulours amd artifacts on screen and the laptop shuts down and restarts after being on for 5 minutes.

I have searched on aliexpress for a compatible gpu to order but all 570 ones are incrediby expensive and the 670 which is a lot cheaper is for asus g75. Do you think I will have problems with the asus getting it to work due to vbios and heatsink etc?

Anyone knows a place to search for a good cheap compatible one preferably in europe? I want as cheap as possoble because I dont play games anymore at high so I dont need something like 980.

I would really appreciate some answers really fast as exam period starts on monday and am gonna be in real deep **** if I dont have a pc for exams.

    Thanks in advance everyone.

The Asus card won't physically fit.

Your heatsink is designed for a specific core of which the 570m is the lowest working one. Other compatible ones are the 580M, 675m and 670m. (Not the MX variants of the 6xx series)

Why will it not fit? It looks 100% identical with my 570 in pictures.

The best one you can put in is 570M per MSI.
    NVIDIA N12E-GT (GeForce GTX570M) - GT780DX
    NVIDIA N12E-GS (GeForce GTX560M) - GT780
    NVIDIA N12E-GE2 (GeForce GT555M) - GX780

Thanks a lot Kevin, that helps. I bought this rig from you in gentech 4 years back btw.

Do you happen to know a good retailer besides the used ones on ebay and aliexpress? I cant find the Msi branded ones there.

That's bare GPU which requires professional soldering equipment.
The issue could be GPU, or VRAM related so it's difficult to determine the root cause of failure here.

The GTX770M works also with the MS-1761. When you find the MSI Version (green PCB, without SLI Connector, incl. MS-Number near the DIE), than you don´t need modified Drivers...

The new Maxwell Cards GTX970M and GTX980M works also great ! When you buy the MSI GT72 MXM Upgrade Kit, than you don´t need modified Drivers.

You need a New Heatsink for Kepler & Maxwell Cards. For Maxwell Cards you can modfiy the Kepler Heatpipe very easy.

I would not recommend it to buy an old Fermi GTX670M. The card is just before the end of life. Most Fermi cards now have massive problems.

Yes but those cards cost a fortune compared to the 570 right? Triple the price.
Dont you think its not worth it spending that much on a 5 year old laptop?
And what do you mean by "end of life"?

    970m is really worth the price ( 450$ ).
Otherwise 7970m if you can find one at ~250$ will be really good too.

With both these cards, you can play whatever game you want. With a 670m, the last ones won't run smoothly enough.

I've just replaced my 780m with a 980m. Does the 780m fit in your laptop?

Don't worry they designed it to sit on top the old style one so they did not have to manufacture a different one.

    Awesome you mean besides these:

msi 770m is plug and play as well? When I say plug and play I mean, I can do the hardware just fine, it is the software that worries me. How do I indentify the brand of the board?

Do you hame a MSI MS-1761 WHITEBOOK?

I didn't have any problems with it when i did it in my gt 783 which is gen 2 core series which i think the 1761 series was. It should work fine.

I was checking the performance of 7970m vs gtx 770m, since they are at the same price range 7970m is a better choice, as I said b4 I have no problem in disassembling the notebook and put it back togehter, but if someone who did it B4, could pst a beginers tutorial it would help me a lot, because it will be my 1st time

If you just want to get back up and running, this 470M works and its probably the cheapest card you can get that doesn't involve getting lucky with some ebay auction. It works perfectly with the 570M heatsink too. But you will need to modify the inf for nvidia drivers to recognize the card and install properly.

I had the misfortune of both the 570M dying, and a dell 7970M dying. Each only lasting about ~ 1-1.5 years. I had enough with dying laptop GPUs, bought a laptop with an eGPU setup. I bought this to make the 1761 passable for gaming and let a friend borrow it for a year now. It is still running fine.
