I am new to this forum...and it is pretty great!

    I recently purchased one of these laptops(MSI 1722 ID1)

and set out to completing it within a few days....well....that was a week ago and I am having some serious issues.

    Here is my setup.

    MSI 1722 ID1
    Intel T9550
PRO WLS 5300 802.11 ABGN-HALF PCIE MINI CARD
WD Scorpio Black 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
    CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

It will power on but the screen is completely black and it will not boot.

I tried removing the memory and it will not beep when it is removed.

I tried removing the battery and running off AC power and it wont boot.

And i removed the CMOS battery and left it out for a good 10 minutes and reseated it....and still nothing.

This one has me stumped. The HDD spins and the fans all come on and the notebook runs stable...but no image or POST or beeps.

    Any suggestions?

there were some reports here in the forum of problems with the bareboon due to cpu not installed properly, should check out if he sits correctly.

    Really?

hmmm...I was thinking it may be something like that since i wasnt getting POST or even a beep.

What did they do to fix the issue ...specifically?

The screw on the CPU socket needs to be turned all the way. Some of them didn't do it and cause the CPU to not seat properly.

What do you mean...."Didn't do it"?

Like the person building the system(end User)

    or

    A factory flaw>?

We're talking about the barebone models right? That would be the end-user.

Ok...good....so then it is my fault.

Does the screw on the cpu socket turn until it clicks..I guess what I am saying is...is it necessary to really torque hte screw to get the cpu in place...or should it just drop right in and twist the screw until it stops?

    ....if that makes sense...ha

CPU should just drop in the socket, and then twist the screw until it stops.

    Ok...I did that initially...at least I thought I did.

when i dropped the cpu in...everything mounted fine. I twisted the screw and the cpu physically moved a fraction towards the screw and then the screw stopped. It didnt seem very "locked in"...if you understand what i am saying.

But there wasnt anywhere else for the cpu to go and the screw did not feel as if I could(should) turn it any further.

I'd double-check. Make sure none of the pins on the CPU are bent, or if you are using a liquid thermal compound instead of the pads that came with the notebook, make sure none of it got on the pins.

Well...as of right now...the thermal pad that came with it is on there.

But if I pull it up and reseat the cpu i am gonna clean it off and then use sole Arctic silver 5

My cpu screw did kind of "snap" into place, maybe you need to twist a little harder. Of course check the pins like someone else said first.

Ok i reseated the cpu and now it is acting more strange.

When I power it on...it comes on for about 5 seconds...then shuts off.

ZThen after about 5 more seconds it turns itself back on and then it doesnt show anything or boot to post...?
