Hi all,
I purchased a MSI 1722 barebone and put it all together yesterday, however I am having a big problem as I can't get it to get past the POST screen and can't even get into the BIOS. It just hangs after the memory check.
Tried everything. Including the usual issues that could arise from this (memory, CMOS reset...etc). I was getting ready to suspect that I had a dud, when I realized that it might be the older BIOS. My CPU is a newer Core 2 Duo the model was just released last month.
How can I update the BIOS without being able to get into anything besides the startup?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Which Core 2 Duo?
MS-1722 is picky on some CPUs
Stick with "45nm CPUs like
T6400
P8600
P8700
T9550
T9800
Q9100
QX9300
I have the Intel T8300 2.4GHZ 45nm
BIOS for MS-1722 Here 1.0R newest
More MS-1722 drivers here
Boot with a USB drive
Change your boot options in BIOS to "USB drive"or "USB Floppy"
Use this Program -
I have the T6400
I do have an external floppy, but I can't get to boot off of it as the computer freezes after it checks the RAM and can't get into the BIOS options.
meh, thanks though -
well I think I'm screwed, I can't get anything going
I've tried everything
this happens anytime I build a computer, so frustrating -
The t6400 is a relatively new processor, I'm guessing you need to update your bios with an older cpu to get it to work....
With the exception of the quads, the first batch of penryn(45nm) cpus are a safe bet:
http://laptoping.com/intel-montevina-penryn-cpu-prices.html
I can personally confirm that the t9400 works.
I've also heard that the older t5xxx series cpus(65nm) will work(basically anything with 667mhz or higher FSB), though they are not officially supported. -
I updated my BIOS "before" i placed my Intel T8300
Its hard to say what works on the MS-1722
Same here i can also confirm my T8300 works..
mkoz777 do you have another laptop with another CPU? -
Any chance that you have different RAM that you can try? If you have two sticks, try just one or the other to see if that works also. If the computer POSTs in the first place, the CPU should work.

Also, older 800mhz fsb CPUs work too. I yanked a older 800mhz CPU out of a Dell D630 to update and it worked fine.

thanks for the help guys
Unfortunately all my other CPUs I have are all AMDs as I never really have used Intels before.
I did try another stick of ram and no success.
I think it is the CPU. I grabbed a T9400 off of ebay and will use it to update. If that I works, I may just sell the T6400 then instead of even going through the hassle. I'll have to see.
How annoying. -
You're probably better off selling the t6400 anyways. The T9400 is a better cpu, you'll get the bigger 6mb cache and the faster 1066mhz FSB, not to mention the faster 2.53Ghz clock speed.

Electrosoft, Was it the T7500 cpu from your D630 that you used? Because if it's so I guess I got to try my T7200 again instead of trying to borrow a 45w P processor which will be difficult atm.
At least the QX9300 showed the first startup screen even if it freezes there.
Gonna try it once again in the morning I suppose, before I go to some crappy second-hand shop here in Thailand and try to bargain a compatible processor. -

Yep, T7500 (SLA44) 800mhz Santa Rosa Era CPU. If the CPU is too new, it will boot to post then freeze. If it is flat out incompatible, it will power off.
It depends on the T7200 you have currently. If it is the older T7200 (SL9SL), it won't boot. It will just power off your unit. If it is the newer T7200 (SL9SF), then it should work. -
My T7200 is with the PGA package. I tried it again and it won't boot up. Gonna head down to the local electronics mall and see what I can find.
-
so yeah the T9400 did the trick and now my laptop is now working pretty well.
Stupid Bios. I'm not even going to bother to update it and just find something to do with the T6400. -
will a T8100 work right out of the box?
-
anyone???.....

Hidden Bios options - In Advance mode hold down Alt and Insert. This may help alot of you who are trying to install OS.

Never used it but it is a 45nm cpu, it should boot fine............. -
Hey,
Does anyone know if an X9100 will work out of the box? I would hate to have to buy another cpu just for the update. If not, what is the fastest cpu that will.
Thanks,
Dan -
Quad core CPUs doesn't work with stock BIOS (1.0H). You need another CPU to update your BIOS to final version (1.0S) and then you're fine.
-
X9100 is not quad core, its dual. This is why I was wondering if I would need another.

Anyone?.....

Mine came with bios 1.0 N.
Can bios 1.0 N run QX 9300?
Vista installs ok.
But at final reboot (vista installation)
Windows loading screen keeps on running endless.
Starting in safe mode it freezes at crcdisk.sys
Tried both 32 & 64 bit Vista and had same problem.
XP wouldn't even install: blue screen error
Isn't there a way to update bios with the qx9300 installed? since I dont have another socket P cpu.
Thnx in advance
Setup:
MSI 17221 ID2
2 x 2 GB OCZ PC6400
WD 320 Scorpio
Intel 5300 -
That is not a problem with the cpu. It is usually associated with the hard drive. I had the same problem with an ms-1651. XP and Win 7 installed fine but I kept having problems with Vista. (Just noticed, I was using the same HD as you, not sure if that is the problem or not but from a google search it seems that the crcdisk.sys has to do with the hard drive.

Well I am running Bios 1.0h and I put the X9100 in and everything works great. Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else was wondering. Also wanted to mention I pulled a HD out of an MS-1651 and didn't even need to reinstall windows. Everything is working great.
